How do you build a workout regime on your own?

I really want to start working out, I’ve been building my diet and now I want to tackle my workout regime. However, I want to attempt doing this through my own research (such as this, if you will). I have never gone to a gym before because it is RIDICULOUSLY expensive where I’m from (I’m not even kidding it’s close to $100/month and it’s far from fancy. The cheapest one runs at around $25ish a month but it’s constantly overpacked).

I have been using workouts on YouTube but I feel disheartened every time I do it because I have no idea why I’m doing what I’m doing. I don’t like following without understanding why. Why this workout, why this set amount of time, why this rest break? Am I doing it right? Is my posture right? What exactly is this workout improving?

The internet is immensely oversaturated with workout content basically, and it’s why I feel so overwhelmed. Loads of different approaches, some say HIIT is good others say not so much. Same thing for regular cardio. Only things I’ve heard that haven’t been attacked are: “walking is beneficial” and “do until failure”.

I don’t want anything fancy. Just the basic workouts that will make me strong and healthy. Aesthetics wise I of course want muscles. Strong arms, defined back, cinched waist, lifted glutes.

I want one where I can shoot both pictures and videos and even better if they have a flip screen where I can see the screen even if the camera is pointed at me. I like grading where it’s on the warmer end, a little grainy, contrast on the higher side (nostalgic, romantic).
