Hoka VS Altra

Curious if anyone has made the switch from Hoka to Altra? I’m primarily a roadrunner, for all of my easy runs I’ve always ran in Clifton’s, just recently switched to the Altra paradigm 8 and really enjoying them. My calves are definitely sore from the transition but excited to strengthen them as well. Anyone made this switch? Any adverse side effects from the major drop?

50k training advice

Hi all! I’m currently in search of a training plan for my first 50k. A little background, I’ve ran 3 marathons and dozens of runs over 20 miles. I’m well versed in longer distances but I’m wanting to transition to ultras. Not necessarily “trail running” as I don’t have many trails accessible to me and im more interested in running the distance of ultras rather than actual trails (for now) I’m looking for a training plan to help me train for a 50k then advance to a 50 miler and beyond. I’ve used Runna for all three of my marathons and have had success. I was doing their 50k training plan but I’m curious if there’s a better training plan out there that is more geared towards ultra distances.

Just bought these and they will be my first pair of Altras! I have always worn Hoka but they wear down extremely fast for me. How many miles is everyone getting out of their Altras?

Training for my first 50k, 14 weeks into a 17 week program. In the last 2 years I have ran 3 marathons and my mileage has been over 40 miles per week for well over a year. Over the last few weeks I’ve developed an ugly case of plantar fasciitis. Skipped my long run this past weekend and attempted my easy run today that was painful so stopped at 2 miles. No change in shoes or insoles, I strength train heavy 3 times per week, always incorporating hip mobility, calves and hamstrings. I also have been doing the frozen water bottle roller as well as sleeping in a splint. I have a physical therapy appointment for next week and may possibly try dry needling, has anyone done this? If so, did it help? I don’t want to skip another 23 mile training run this weekend but I feel like it’s the smartest answer. Has anyone taken a few weeks off running completely? If so, did it help or did you notice you lost progress? I’m looking for any insight on how long I should expect to take off running, I really don’t want to lose my progress since I’m so close to the end of my training.
