Why the app facelift sucks
The food diary is the most important part of this app. The new update has removed the diary tab and instead integrated it in a less effective way in the "today" tab, damaging the user experience.
The meals shown grouped in the today tab ("... and 8 more") instead of showing all entries per meal at once is clunky and serves only as a barrier to what most people want, which is to see their full food diary easily and instantly when opening the app. Now, you have to enter a separate page to see the full diary. The full diary should have its own tab, serving as the main focus of the app.
Logged items are now shown each on individual cards that make grossly ineffective use of screen real-estate by being far too large and filled with empty space/padding. At most, 7 items fit on the screen at once, when before, at least 12 could easily fit. The cards need to be condensed, or at least, the option to switch the appearance to a condensed view should be provided.
The new app experience is extremely disappointing. It's not about "taking time to get used to", it's that the app's main focus, the food diary, has been ruined by being converted to a list of gigantic, space-consuming cards and relegated behind a pointless "view all" button. There isn't a single time when I wouldn't want to view my entire daily food diary at once - it's the whole point of the app.
The only thing most people are interested in seeing when they open the app is a summary of nutrition at the top, followed by all their logged items of the day displayed in a meal-separated, space-efficient list that fits as many items on the screen at once as possible without being overly condensed. Kind of like... the way the diary looked before...
This update does nothing but demonstrate a grand disconnect between the MyFitnessPal team and the user experience.
