So I’ve never done stand-up before, but it’s been sitting in the back of my brain like an unpaid bill for years and I mean YEARS!
I know I want to try it. Not even casually. Like… I feel borderline obligated to at this point.
problem at hand:
I’ve never actually written a structured joke in my life.
What I DO have:
– A lot of real-life stories
– Zero filter
– A mouth that has gotten me into situations I probably shouldn’t have survived
– Big “says things out loud that were meant to stay inside thoughts” energy
I’ve been told I’m funny, but in that “you should tell that story again” way… not in a “this is an ENTIRE set” way.
I’m also dealing with a level of self-doubt that’s honestly disrespectful at this point. Like I already know I’m probably going to bomb my first time, but my inner perfectionist is pacing in circles demanding I at least try to not crash and burn instantly.
So I guess I’m asking:
Would anyone be willing to let me run a couple rough stories by them and help me shape them into something that actually works on stage?
I can keep it concise, I just don’t know what I’m doing yet and would rather not go up there completely blind.
If you’ve been in this spot before or enjoy helping people tighten material, I’d seriously appreciate it.
