I’ve been drawing on and off for 2 years and I can’t really do anything. I can trace and I barely understand color theory but that gets me nowhere. I don’t like physical art and prefer digital because I like the accessibility and I’d like to develop a less realistic art style.
I’ve recently been trying to do what people have told me are the fundamentals and basics. Anatomy, shapes, 3d shapes, etc. ITS SO BORING. I genuinely hate it and want nothing to do with it.
I find no joy in drawing the shapes, I don’t get a dopamine rush the same way I do from imagining my characters. I want to draw, I want to express how I want my characters to look in art form, and I’m too poor to pay for commissions.
I’ve tried listening to music, watching tv while I draw, even drawing in places where I’m bored to take my mind off of it. Nothing works and I’m slowly hating drawing in general. I’ve been focusing on shapes and anatomy recently and I want to bang my head into a wall it’s so boring. I’m minutes away from trying the Stephen King method just to find enjoyment in drawing the shapes.
Is there any other way to learn that’s even slightly more fun? I’ll try anything other than this, literally anything. I enjoy the idea of drawing and creating characters so much, and I can visualize them so well I just don’t know how to apply it in a way that doesn’t make me want to quit from boredom.
