Hi,

I bought a machine knit sweater and its perfect for the project i have in mind except the collar needs to be a different color. I dont know how to knit but i do know how to chrochet so i figured I would crochet the collar and then swap it with the original. Is this possible or would the whole stitching fall apart? I would appreciate any help :)

Hi!

I’m working on a cosplay and I have this pink machine-knit sweater. The character's collar is actually a much lighter pink, so I want to replace the current turtleneck with a crochet one.

I’m much more comfortable with crochet than knitting, but I’ve never freehanded a project like this or combined the two crafts before (i made a few amigurumi bees, ducks and rats but that's basically it). My plan is to make the collar separately and then sew it onto the sweater so I don’t accidentally ruin the body of the sweater if I mess up the crochet part.

I have a few specific questions:

  1. Stitch Choice. What is the stretchiest "knit-look" also the lower part is much stretchier than the upper, is that even possible to make? Id like to keep it as close as possible to the orginal since the collar actually works amazing for the look im going for.
  2. Since it’s machine-knit, I’m worried a 1:1 ratio (one crochet stitch per knit loop) will make the collar way too wide? How does this work?
  3. Once I unravel/cut the original collar, how do I stop the sweater from unraveling while I’m trying to sew the new collar on?

I’m looking to lighten the collar on my 100% polyester sweater to match the lighter pink spots on the body (pictured) i also added another pic of what im trying to achieve. I know polyester is famously difficult to strip, but has anyone had success using something like Rit Color Remover on synthetics? Or should I give up and try to come up with a different solution?
