My Lucky Egg hunt experience

I wanted to share my Lucky Egg hunt experience as it went anything but according to odds, however ended up being very rewarding.

I decided I wanted to track my encounters and used an online counter to track: Total encountered Pokemon, Chansey's encountered, how many of those Chansey's fled on the first turn, and how many Chansey's I caught.

I used a combination of Techno Trainer's guide and Professor Rex's catch strategy.

Going for the Lucky Egg using these two guides, your estimated hunt is about 9 hours of gameplay, a little over 1,800 total Pokemon encountered, and 20 Chansey caught.

The hunt started miserably, which as you can see, is why my total encounters is over double the estimated total encounters. My total time for the hunt ended up around 25 hours of gameplay and spanned about 3 weeks of real time.

About 1,000 encounters in I came across my 1st shiny, Venomoth. Not wanting to mess this up, I used a bait per Professor Rex's guide and the Venomoth fled instantly. Great!

Feeling defeated, I pressed on and went on a nice streak of catching 2-3 Chansey per safari zone however never saw a Lucky Egg. My longest total encounters without seeing a Chansey was somewhere a little over 150 encounters. This can feel extra terrible when the next Chansey you finally see, flees on the first bait.

About 2,400 total encounters in I encountered my 2nd shiny, Exeggcute. After losing the shiny Venomoth and already so demoralized from being over odds in the hunt itself, I wasn't going to risk this shiny without at least getting a ball off. Thankfully, my first ball thrown I caught the Exeggcute, my first shiny in my play through, and now a boost to continue on the hunt.

Passing 3,000 encounters I started to go a bit insane when every Chansey that was caught did not have the Lucky Egg. I started doing all sorts of superstitious things including naming the Chansey 'Egg' in hopes the Pokemon gods would listen + I had just finished S1 of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', iykyk.

I then encountered my THIRD shiny, once again Venomoth, the one who had got away. This was redemption. I followed Professor Rex's guide on this one, and after two baits and a ball, had caught the shiny Venomoth who had ran from me two weeks ago. That's 3 full odds shinies all on different seeds (I would restart the game after running out of safari balls).

My last push was a Saturday morning where I truly was so close to stopping this hunt and finishing the game. I'm not sure why I kept going, maybe the sunk cost fallacy was in the back of my mind, but finally, finally, two baits and a ball later, I saw that little item icon next to my 26th caught Chansey named 'Egg.'

Final Statistics:

Total Pokemon Encountered: 3,862

Chansey Encountered: 166

Fled on First Turn: 80

Chansey Caught: 26

Some stats:

-Fled on first turn was at 48% just about spot on

-26 Chansey caught is about 15% of the time for 166 Chansey encountered which is where I got killed as that should be closer to 20%.

-My longest catch attempt went 23 balls and I did not catch that Chansey

I definitely consider this hunt more of a collector's item hunt than for the increased EXP the Lucky Egg provides. It had its ups and downs but now I have two safari zone shinies, the Lucky Egg, and a great story.

My crazy lucky egg hunt

I decided I wanted to track my encounters and used an online counter to track: Total encountered Pokemon, Chansey's encountered, how many of those Chansey's fled on the first turn, and how many Chansey's I caught.

Going for the Lucky Egg using these two guides, your estimated hunt is about 9 hours of gameplay, a little over 1,800 total Pokemon encountered, and 20 Chansey caught. You have a 4% chance to encounter Chansey (about 1% boosted using the Lvl 26 Pokemon + repel), about a 45% chance it will flee on the first turn no matter what you do, a little over 19% to catch Chansey, and a 5% chance for that caught Chansey to be holding the ever elusive Lucky Egg.

The hunt started miserably, which as you can see, is why my total encounters is over double the estimated total encounters. My total time for the hunt ended up around 25 hours of gameplay and spanned about 3 weeks of real time.
