Had a chat with a writer at PCWorld - this is actually a pretty in depth article about things!
I'm looking for a Writerdeck that supports Dvorak layout. Can someone confirm if Zerowriter (either the Ink or the upcoming Fold) does?
Also, what's the lag on the eink screen like? I type at 100wpm, looking at the screen, so am hoping for something with very little lag.
Thank you for your comments.
I made a short video about going from my original Raspberry Pi Zerowriter project a few years ago to the Zerowriter Fold.
(Sorry if the volume isn’t normalized yet)
It’s a full e-ink word processor with a clamshell design, 60% keyboard, user-controllable screen lighting, and a lot more connectivity compared to my earlier designs.
When I started building, I did a community survey to learn a bit more about what people were looking for. This video goes in to those responses a little bit.
You can learn more about Fold here: https://www.zerowriter.ink/fold
I’m running a Kickstarter in a few weeks for Fold, but it is at the start of the cycle as I am using new production methods for this round. Most importantly, we’ll be doing final assembly in-house with my own team. If all goes well, 6-12 months and we can see the first 500 out in the world.
The first wave of backers (first 500) get it for $239 USD - but be mindful that this doesn’t include shipping or tariffs, which will be added via the system after.
Also,
For those who have their Inks, or have an Ink on the way in the coming weeks: I’m going to also offer a conversion enclosure kit so you can DIY your Ink into a similar design for about $40. This won’t be on the Kickstarter, I’ll offer it directly from my webstore, since I don’t want to confuse people.
Take care everyone,
Adam
Hello everyone,
The hardware files for Zerowriter Ink have been released on GitHub;
https://github.com/zerowriter/zerowriter\_ink/tree/main/design/src
This includes source files for the keyboard, main board (Inkplate), and power board. That includes the schematics, BOMs, and kicad design files for each.
I haven’t personally reviewed the files yet, but they are the source / production files from Soldered, so should serve as a good foundation.

So, I'm eying the Zerowriter fold. I have a Lignin Folio I love, but it has its limitations so I'm considering using it mainly for fanfic writing. Especially since I can only work on one project at a time.
I suppose my question is, to Adam or anyone who can answer it, does or will the fold's software have folders? I know for some it's easy to kind of just work from certain files all willy nilly, but my AUDHD and OCD will not allow such a thing.
And I'm not sure I should invest if there isn't folder options ...
I mean I guess if there's going to be Google drive integration I can always just push it to Drive and organize the drafts in folders there - or my editor of choice, but I'd like the option for at least three or four folders or batch files like on wordgrinder.
