Was it school, was it something you did, was it just dumb luck? Share that one thing that has had the biggest impact!
We’re officially in May, so we just wrapped up and analyzed the April data… and it was a wild one.
Every month, we track the US tech job market using LinkedIn + Google Trends to see where demand is actually moving.
Here are a few things that stood out this month:
✔️ Software Engineer roles dropped -39% (biggest drop we’ve seen so far)
✔️ DevOps jumped +58% (strongest growth this month)
✔️ ML Engineer up +40.9% and AI Engineer up +33.8%
✔️ Data Scientist roles up +29.5% (4th month of growth)
✔️ Blockchain +215% and Game Dev +304% (small pools, big swings)
At the same time:
✔️ 100,000+ tech layoffs in 2026 so far
✔️ Major companies cutting roles while doubling down on AI
So what’s actually happening?
→ Generalist roles are getting hit
→ Specialist roles (AI, ML, DevOps, Data) keep growing
→ AI isn’t “killing jobs”… it’s reshaping what companies hire for
If you’re trying to figure out where things are heading (or where to focus), this one’s worth a read 👀
