Its fallow week in the 6 Nations and all the podcasts I follow have been talking about the growth in the womens game and what investment is needed to keep it going. It reminded me of this bit from the linked article which was published after the Red Roses won the world cup last year and has been living rent free in my mind since then.

Everyone goes on about how the RFU were so "bold" and "ahead of their time" for choosing to invest in womens rugby when they did, but this tells us it wasnt the RFU choosing to do it, it was them being forced highly encouraged to do it.

We all know money talks, so its nice to see that O2 (and I suspect the other sponsors mentioned may have been Vodafone and British Airways based on other work they have done supporting womens rugby) were actually willing to put their money where their mouth is when they talk about things like equity and inclusion. See also, FNB in South Africa for driving the womens game there.

So I guess if your sponsors are Altrad, tough shit as far as getting more money for the women goes 😅And for everyone else, growing the game might mean putting pressure in places you might not think 😇
