Wednesdays West Marches with a twist anyone?

Hi, I’m starting an online West Marches game on Wednesday, May 20th, running on Tabletop Simulator. I have some slots filled but the more the merrier.

The main twist: Players build the unexplored parts of the map through play. After completing a session, the group gets to place new hexes onto the campaign map:

  • Easy session: place 1 hex
  • Medium session: place 2 hexes
  • Hard session: place 3 hexes

Those hexes aren't just terrain, there is some world-building too. They become part of the world going forward. The gist is that exploration does not just reveal the "map", rather it helps create it.

The game is paid, run online, and built for drop-in / drop-out West Marches play. I'm running two time zones - a GMT 5pm slot and a US Pacific 5pm time slot. There are a few more details and table rules, but that's the basics.

Reply here or DM me with questions!

The Crater of Ciasom. D&D 5e, Westmarch / Living World Server

The Crater of Ciasom was formed during a cataclysmic event of legend in the days of old, when a vast meteorite crashed into the ground.

The apocalyptic event formed a geographical wonder - a circular mountain range that spanned half of the country, its peaks all facing outward from the epicenter of the vast Crater - itself a wasteland of desert and ruins - at which could be found a lake of blood and viscera that oozed aberrant magic within an approximate 50 mile radius, as measured by the Archivists in their forays into the wasteland.

The city of Halrani was founded in the crater in the new age. It is from here and the surrounding kingdom that many adventures and stories unfold. Participate in urban intrigue, grand travels and expeditions, delve ancient ruins, face off against sinister orc warlords, malevolent fey, vile necromancers, mighty dragons, and even rise to become a landed noble and have a tangible effect on the wider world.

About us

We're a small community of players and dms hoping to grow our playerbase. The server has been around since 2020, but after some years of on and off activity. We've decided to introduce a "server reset".

Scaling our old characters back to level 5, the same as the starting level for new players.

By doing this we tend to even out the playing field, and by introducing new players, we're hoping to build the server into a comfortable and enjoyable place to play D&D in.

Platform, Voice/Text.

Sessions are run live and primarily synchronous text-based. Players are welcome to join voice chat during these (for vibing, music, memes, etc), but participation is not required, as some players prefer text-only play. There is also play by post roleplaying and activity on the server text channels between sessions (that often develop into greater plots), so there is always activity going on.

System.

D&D 5e (primarily 2014, but also playtesting 2024 subclasses)

Available Space.

Looking for players and DMs (who are also players) (i.e. you get to be both!). 6 currently active DMs, with the hopes of getting a couple more.

Timezones.

We have DMs and players all over the world, so we try to keep things flexible so everyone gets to participate. Currently active DMs are based in Europe, Australia and USA.

Joining the server.

If this sounds interesting to you, please shoot me a message.

We welcome both old and new players alike.

What mechanically makes your westmarches special?

I have a negative history with a westmarches ran poorly. So I am curious what do yours do well or different. I'm really looking for conversations about behind the scenes and book keeping? How do GMs track what is done and show the other GMs changes? Is there a few things to fill out? How do you share and store the forms? What do you track?

Edit I think I'm asking 2 different questions. What is unique about your and how do you handle the clarifying of the book work on the back end?.
