A by-election result from Newport while we wait...

Residents in the Rogerstone North ward in Newport also voted in a by-election for Newport City Council on Thursday.

The results have been counted overnight and were as follows:

- Conservatives - 597 - ELECTED

- Reform UK - 402

- Plaid Cymru - 287

- Labour - 204

- Greens - 108

- Lib Dems - 57

The previous councillor was also a Conservative (they had 667 votes in 2022 and the only other candidate at the time was Labour on 548).

Turnout was a whopping 69.74%. Turnout for the same ward in the 2022 council election was 51.2%.
