Is Walthamstow a good area if you don’t work centrally?

A lot of discussions seem focused on commuting into central London, but I’m curious how the area feels if you mostly work remotely or locally. Does it still feel like a good place to base yourself if you’re not using the Tube every day?

How is it like owning a dog living in Waltham?

Planning on moving to W with a large dog - coming from Hackney, bit hesitant that there are not too many large or enclosed green spaces for my large dog. Am I mistaking? Where do you take your dog out? Any fav parks? Would love to know from dog owners (medium to large) experiences

Petition to build a skate park behind St James Park

There’s a petition going around to build a skate park in Low Hall. Not sure what the plan is exactly but given how under utilised the area is in its probably worth support.

“Hi, my name is  Stanley and I'm 11 years old. I love scooting and skating but the closest skate park is in Lloyd Park, which means we often have to drive there which burns fossil fuels. Wouldn't it be amazing if we had a skate park right here in St James Park?”

new wine bar? Wineknot

Walked past the other night and clocked this. Apparently they're doing a wine bar thing once a month — next one's 15 & 16 May. Anyone been? We need more of these kind of spot around BH road tbh.

Anyone live in a new build flat? How's the heat in the summer?

I'm looking at moving into Essex Brewery or similar new builds around Walthamstow and am wondering how you all have found the summers to be heatwise?

Old snowy photo of the Ancient House in Walthamstow!

Just found this photo of the Ancient House when it was still a bookshop. It looks so different in the snow. It’s wild to think it's been around since the 15th century. We really do have some amazing history right on our doorstep. Does anyone know if much of the original interior is still left now?

Big penny beers

Not a massive fan of the venue tbh but just noticed they no longer have “in house” beers and it’s all the Camden slop! (To be honest the big penny beers might have been brewed by them anyway!!) anyone know what’s happened?
Altho doesn’t really matter as the options minutes away are fantastic!

Lee Valley Marina - Council Tax

In case anyone has missed the news it looks like Waltham Forest Council have missed 35 years worth of council tax on boats moored in the marina.

In case anyone here has lived there as it’s nearby you might want to keep on top of the story as councils are notorious for being able to chase debts.

Started in Walthamstow, now in Hackney too. Kept missing things at local venues. Found out on Monday morning, every time.

Follow your favourite local venues and get notified when something’s on. Gigs, quiz nights, comedy, sports, whatever. MOTH Club, Grow, EartH, Shacklewell Arms and more already on there. Don’t see your local? Add it and it’ll pull in their events too.

Still early so would genuinely love feedback. What’s missing, what’s broken.

Fence spikes to stop foxes...

Anyone had luck with spikes on their fences to stop foxes coming into the garden.

FYI it's pretty much all day and night. Both sides. I've been in the garden when one jumped over. It's not great with the kids.

My thoughts are they are pretty smart so if the spikes are a deterrent they will stop coming in?

Ideally something like these ones in the picture. The metal spike ones you see at stain stations don't look great / might do some harm to an animal.

What’s the new shop opening opposite Armstrong Audio?

Walked past a few times and there’s tradesmen doing a new fit out of the empty retail space next to Blackhorse Lane co op. I was nosey and saw they have some counters in the middle with wooden panelling, but no signage about what it is.

Anyone know what’s opening there?

I think it used to be advertised that some sort of restaurant was eventually going to be opening, but I don’t know if that ever got off the ground. I was rather hoping for a restaurant as we don’t have many options round here.

Looking to move to highams park, any idea what its like? Travellin to work in the city so need a reliable line, also whats the area like in general? Is it as rough as leyton or stow?

And lastly, what happens if the weaver line is out of action? Seems awkward to get anywhere else like woodford or stow? Or am i missing something?

Walthamstow Art Trail

Hi all! From chatting to people in the area this week it came to my attention that lots don’t know the Art Trail is happening again! Hope this is okay to post as I think it would be of interest to this group :) I’m an exhibitor and there are 200+ of us showing our work this year! It’s totally free to grab the map and follow the trail, with a few paid workshops. You can find more info on the website here https://www.walthamstowarttrail.co.uk/

Any news on Mini Hiba?

I love Mini Hiba and want them to keep on being delicious and do well as a business. They've been closed for refurbishment for a few months now. Does anyone know any details? Will they be back?

It’s great that these were a joint project between the local community and the students at Walthamstow School for Girls. They really brighten up the walk toward the Village and the William Morris Gallery. Does anyone know if there are more of these planned around E17?

I quite often run or take the dog up Tottenham marshes. Was looking at the OS Maps and spotted this path, which very much is not a path today. Locked gate at the southern end, not even a bridge at the top! Anyone know whether it's ever been open? Or for how long it's been closed? Thanks!
