I cannot run due to an ankle injury so most of my exercising consists of regular 4 mile brisk walks, free wight exercises and cable machine. In the winter I tend to do daily 30 minute (15 incline/3.2 speed) walks on treadmill. Yet I have not seen any improvement.

Cycling is an option but by the time I feel like i am getting considerable aerobic exercise my ankle begins to hurt (dorisflexion is very limited). Same happens with the rowing machine.

Has anyone successfully improved their VO2 using non-traditional methods?

I run 4-6 days/week and lifts 3-4. RHR is 42. 6’ tall 170 lbs. I’m in good shape but VO2 seems a little high, right?
