Finally: Remapping the AI button in 1.4.0!

Just got the notification to update to v1.4.0 today and immediately went to the settings to remap the AI button to something else. I had previously disabled, and tried to remap it using another app, but that was too many steps and details for me (I just wanted to remap one button). Thankfully, v1.4.0 now offers that option 😁

What templates do you want to see next? (We'll build your top picks!)

We're opening up a new round of official template curation for the AiPaper template library, and this time around, the goal is simple: our library should reflect what you actually need, not just what we brainstorm around the office.

So we're asking the community directly:

👉 What templates are you missing?

It can be something practical you've been hoping for, or something you've already been using on your own — a planner you've been tweaking, a tracker that has become essential to your workflow, or a blank structure that just feels right for the way you think. The kind of template you'd recommend to another AiPaper user without hesitation.

We'll be reviewing every suggestion in the comments, and the most compelling ideas will be considered for inclusion in future official template updates. Alongside that, we're also planning to bring in a selection of professionally designed premium templates from third-party creators.

And yes — there are prizes. 🎁

A few contributors who share particularly thoughtful submissions (or clever templates the community seems to love) will receive a reward as a thank-you from us once the dust settles.

How to participate

  1. Comment below with the template(s) you'd love to see added — tell us what it's for, and why it's useful.
  2. Upvote the ideas you'd want to use yourself.
  3. Share a screenshot or description of any template you've already been using and recommend — homegrown or otherwise.

Some questions to get the ideas flowing

  • What's the one template that would make your weekly workflow noticeably smoother?
  • Is there a page layout you've always wanted but could never find?
  • What's a template you've seen on another platform or subreddit that you wish existed on AiPaper?
  • Do you have a workflow that's working great and could inspire others?

You can just drop a quick idea — or go deep. Both are welcome.

This thread will stay open for entries. Take your time. We'll review everything, compile the results, and follow up once we've made our selections.

Thanks for helping us make the library yours. We're genuinely curious to see what you all come up with. ✌️

Final note: This thread is for template requests or submissions only. If you're running into a technical issue or product question, please create a separate post or reach out to our support team. We want to keep the comments focused so we don't miss any ideas.

"Learning" App - How do I change the AI model?

I know that I can change it in the AI app, but I can not change it in the Learning app.
Runs on GPT-4o only and its veeery slow at even the most basic translation tasks.

Used my AiPaper Reader C for my daily commute - battery is good

I decided to use my Reader C as my daily commute phone for today and kept track of the battery life. I figured I might as well share the findings, since the battery is quite small.

Connection was via a wifi hot spot, as I do not have a 2nd SIM yet.

No back light was used.
Folio sleep/turn on was enabled, so was bluetooth and wifi during sleep.

6:00 to 7:21 - web browsing, messaging, reading articles, mails, reddit.
99% to 93%

12:48 - checked during lunch, read and answered a few mails, showed to colleagues.
89%

15:11 to 16:10 - mails, articles, youtube (144p back ground playback for audio only).
85% to 77%

I also did a charge test yesterday from 4% to 100% (phone lost 1% over night)
To 25%: 17 minutes
To 50%: 37 minutes
To 75%: 57 minutes
To 80%: 1 hour 2 minutes
To 100%: 1 hour 26 minutes

It pulled 2489 mAh / 12460 mWh to achieve the full charge according to my KM003C.

It does support PD chargers but uses 5V only. 9.1W max.

I actually expected pretty poor battery stats for such a small battery. But this is pretty good.
Yes, sure, this is on a new battery, but still. 30 minutes of back ground youtube with all the other daily tasks used 27%. I find this to be acceptable. This means that I could get 3 days per charge out of this phone for a few years, assuming that the battery holds up well.

Charging is a tad slow, but I consider this to be good (battery health and all).

The pictures don't do it justice as IRL but I bought a Ulanzi magnetic phone light on Amazon. So lightweight, different brightness levels and warm light & you just have to connect it with a magnetic ring on your Paper reader.

Highly recommend for dark reading sessions if you don't like the native front light. Also the flexible neck of the lamp really help to adjust to the right position!

Thought I'd share because I've tried other reading lights and this one was the best so far :) (while waiting for an upgraded BW Paper reader 2)

AiPaper Reader v1.4.0 firmware completely disables ADB , anyone else?

Working before:

- Full ADB shell over USB and Wi-Fi

- Root access via su (factory included?)

- adb push/pull, scrcpy, adb install are all working for me

- I used wireless ADB daily to sync ebooks and backup the device

After i upgraded:

- ADB detects the device and shows it as a connected device

- Every shell command returns: error: not support command

- adb push, adb pull, adb install, logcat are all blocked

- Even scrcpy can't push its server binary

It looks like the device has a custom restricted ADB daemon that rejects everything. From what I've found online, Viwoods intentionally locked down ADB and reportedly offered a custom tool to some users as a workaround. I've emailed their support at service@viwoods.com hopefully they respond soon.

Has anyone else run into this? Any workarounds? Is there a way to downgrade?

I am unsure which one to get. The Viwoods Airpaper looks good on paper, with more storage, a better price, and some preloaded LLMs; on the other hand, the AINOTE 2 seems more premium, with good AI integration.

I want a good device with ebook capabilities, Great Quality, Google Play Store integration, strong AI integration, and great note-taking. I am moving away from Amazon.

Thank you for your feedback.

AiPaper Reader (C) - To screen protect or to not screen protect

So I just got my AiPaper Reader (C) and it is really really neat!

I also got a pack of screen protectors, since I usually apply those to anything with a glass screen.
However, the Reader has a paper like display, so applying a protector would not only remove the feeling from the screen and might also leave some residue after a few months.

Should I apply one or not? I got their flip case as well, its not magnetic but it does the job.

Now would be the perfect time for you guys to drop a color AI Paper (or larger) with front light. All of the Remarkable fans are disgusted that the Remarkable Pure doesn't have front light. C'mon guys...you can do it! I'd be your biggest and loudest promoter!

Anyone using Recorder with Ai Paper or mini?

I’m considering an Ai Paper and intend to use a Plaud note or similar device to record and summarize meetings and conference sessions. Is anyone doing this with success and if so how?

I used to read e books on an old kindle paperwhite and having this form factor for reading has made it so much easier to finish books. I love that I can listen to my audiobooks while reading on one device. I wish the battery life was better though , the only flaw for me.

Using ViWoods Ai Paper as second monitor / extended display?

Apologies if this has been answered--I've searched the subreddit for similar questions but couldn't find a direct answer.

Has anyone had any success using the Ai Paper as a second monitor / extended display (especially for MacOS)? Would screen sharing Android apps installed on the Ai Paper and the sharing PC/Mac work? I would be grateful for your experience! Thank you!

Daily Planner App

I have been using this AI Paper Mini daily since February. I mainly purchased it for the Planner as I could tell it went far and above the Calendar on the Boox.

I love this Daily Planner App, but it is still missing some key features, IMHO.

I have been a Planner since my work days, keeping up with both personal and work info. I am a retired paralegal and keeping a Planner was important. Plus I worked 1.5 hours away from home, long commute. I continue my planning today, for no reason other than I am used to it. I like to see what my weeks are looking like and then my month as well.

I use a running ToDo list for the year, etc. I export my month view every month to PDF to my Samsung tablet so I can quickly scroll thru the month(s) to see when something occurred.

What's missing from this App??

The ability to export Notes as a monthly view. or export the To Do's, or see a Monthly View of your Meetings, let alone be able to Export them. How is it I look at my Monthly View on the App and all I see is Dots and have to click on each of them to find the appt/meeting I am looking for. An overview is needed without having to go to my phone/tablet to see what is scheduled.

Perhaps I have missed something in the Planner. If so, please advise.

Albeit, I love, love, love this device!

Just unboxed my Ai Paper and I absolutely love it. I was actually close to purchasing the iflytek AiNote but I read all the reviews and decided to go with the safer bet.

One thing I have noticed is that as much as I love the recording function, it would be good to have the ability to record more than 10 minutes!

Additionally, if there was a way to export the recording and handwritten meeting notes into the ai to be able to create meeting minutes and actionable items not just basing it on the handwritten notes (as it does currently).

Also, it would be good to be able to export whatever the AI generates and attach it as a layer or even as a page from your meeting notes or paper notes.

For context, I will primarily use this device as a digital compendium for my corporate meetings and ideally would like to be able to record my meetings and have the AI spit out a set of meeting minutes and being able to save the generated AI response into the meeting or paper notes instead of a separate file under AI notes.

Hopefully the dev team can look into this 🙏🤞

Once I finally dug in and learned how to use the ViTransfer, it is a very smooth tool for transferring files to and from my Samsung Tablet. Originally, my brain just couldn't wrap around how to do it, I was so used to my Boox and copying files via USB or bluetooth.

However, as for importing docs or templates to the AI Paper, the ViTransfer bypasses the Import step needed on the device.

So stick with it if you aren't using this feature. I wrote some Notes if you think they would help.
