Anyone else feel like UTD just feels… off lately? (2026 senior)

I came in around 2022, so I didn’t experience UTD before COVID, but I’ve heard enough from older students to feel like something changed.

And honestly, it’s not even about academics. It’s the people and the day-to-day interactions.

Lately I’ve been noticing things that feel small, but add up:

Saying hi to someone I know and getting straight up ignored

Getting a weird look like I’m out of place for being friendly

People not really respecting boundaries when talking, either too closed off or the complete opposite

No basic “excuse me,” people cutting lines, or just not being aware of others around them

Group work where people just disappear and don’t communicate

It just feels… off. Like the social awareness and basic manners aren’t the same.

And I genuinely don’t know, was UTD always like this? Or is this something newer?

I didn’t see the pre-COVID version of campus, so I can’t compare directly. But from what I’ve heard, people used to be a bit more open, more respectful, more willing to actually connect.

Now it feels more distant, more transactional, sometimes even a little cold.

I’m not saying everyone is like this, I’ve met some great people here. But the overall vibe feels different than what I expected college to be.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this, or if I’m just overthinking it since I’m about to graduate.

If you’ve been here longer (or even recently), what’s your experience been like?

Do you feel a shift, or has it always been this way?

Are cough drops/masks allowed at Testing Center?

Does anyone know if the Testing Center offers accommodations for students who are mildly sick (not serious enough to see a doctor, but still uncomfortable)? I don’t have a fever, but I do have a cough and a stuffy nose. I’m worried about having a coughing fit during the exam and might need water or cough drops if that happens.

Are items like masks, tissues, water bottles, or cough drops allowed if we are sick? If not, are we permitted to briefly leave the room during the exam to like pop in a cough drop, get a sip of water, or blow our nose?

One semester left and not sure how to complete it

I only have this upcoming fall semester left and unfortunately my father and little sister got detained by ICE here in Austin. I do not have an apartment in Dallas and my lawyer is advising me not to leave my house. My professors for this semester were nice enough to let me finish out the semester online but I am not sure on how to go about next semester since my mother needs me to help her with paperwork and I have to take care of her. Does anyone know if it is possible to finish the remaining 4 classes online?

I'm confused abt housing at UTD

So I wanted to get a dorm at UTD and applied in december, and I see all my friends from other colleges get their housing contracts. But I haven't gotten one from UTD yet. When does housing confirmation come out? I'm very confused and my parents are also concerned abt it as well. When do you have to choose your roommate by?

Advisor misadvised me

Hey everyone. In january I provided my advisor a list of classes and asked if everything was needed for graduation.

She told me I needed everything except 2 classes and recommended one of them if I plan to do graduate school.

I went ahead and dropped those 2 classes.

3 days before census day, I emailed her again asking if I the classes im taking is enough for graduation and she said yes.

2 weeks into the semester, as I’m reading policies I realize a D is passing and did not need to retake one of the classes I am registered for. I emailed her and she said thats correct and I didnt need that one either.

I contacted the bursar office with evidence and they said they are happy to appeal it but told me I needed to drop the class immediately.

Took them weeks to file the appeal and they rejected it with 2 reasons:

  1. Law doesnt allow refunds

  2. I dropped the class for no reason.

I’m being led in circles by the bursars office and my schools dean and advisor. Any recommendations?

The school owes me over $2500.

Do C-‘s transfer to Utd ?

Coming from an institution that does not do -/+ grading, I might end this semester with below a 73% which would be a C- by Utd grading and I was wondering if I’d have to retake it at UTD, thank you very much !

Found Empty AirPod Case (3rd gen)

I was on a walk and saw an empty AirPods case somewhere on the path going around UTD. There no AirPods inside so when I opened the case the owner of them didn’t pop up on my phone. I’m not disclosing what part I found them in because I need solid proof of whoever left them behind. I’d like to get these back to the original owner, I know it’s expensive so please don’t make up stories to get a free AirPods case 😂 . So let me know if you lost your AirPods when you were on the path bordering the UTD campus.

How difficult is it and can I have a social life compared to how other business schools are easy like UTK Haslam school of business? Thank you.

Gym Situation at UTD

Hey I am an incoming freshman at UTD and wondering what gyms are like there and have some questions: Is there a free one run by college? Is there more preferred options elsewhere. What are the quality of the gyms?

How do you do this thing call “socialization” especially when you’re in a constant state of social anxiety?

I try to approach people but always get nervous that I’ll say the wrong thing and come across as too strange.
