British India

Hi all, I’m looking for help identifying this regiment in the British Indian Army I believe around 1900 particularly the officer in black at the rear. Many thanks

My partner likes to collect military stuff and found this at Goodwill. She's wondering when it's from. She doesn't have Reddit and asked me to make a post.

I just learned about this uniform recently. I was very surprised to learn there was a uniform more formal than the typical brown service dress and less than the full ceremonial dress (varies by regiment but usually red). I would not have guessed the British Army wears dark blue on formal occasions.

Shanghai Russian Regiment. In the first row, sitting from the left is Sergeant N.V. Kharin, and from the right are D.K. Krotov, E.M. Krasnousov, A.A. Vasilyev, Company Commander Colonel M.I. Marhinin, Rittmeister P.I. Gopanovich, and I.S. Lobanov.

The regiment was formed in 1927 from Russian emigrants (Cossacks of the Far Eastern Cossack Group of General F.L. Glebov) as a Russian detachment of 2 companies as part of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps, which guarded the European population of Shanghai. It was subordinate to the Municipal Council of the International Settlement of Shanghai, and its members had ranks in the British service. Two companies were on permanent duty, receiving salaries, while the 3rd company was a volunteer unit that was called up for training exercises. In 1932, it was expanded into a regiment (4 companies, including 1 volunteer company). In 1941, it was transformed into the Separate Russian Detachment of the Shanghai Municipal Police. It existed until the end of 1947.

Before World War 2, the Royal Marechaussee, a gendarmerie force in the Netherlands, had a more extensive civilian policing mission than it has today. A mission that occasionally included fining beachgoers for being inappropriately dressed. Source: Nationaal Archief.

Looking for some help from the military uniform enthusiast community. Attached is a picture of some of an ancestor from I’m assuming around the time of the Second World War. Can you help me identify the cap badge? This might help me discover who they are as I can link to information from old letters! Many thanks in advance!

Hello, does anyone know how I could restore this uniform? Especially the lower pockets, I was thinking of folding the damaged area in order to hide it but I'd like to know if someone has had any experience with restoring old uniforms.

Hello. I’m looking at this 1946 photo of a Soviet soldier in an M43 tunic. The dark shoulder boards clearly show the rank of sergeant, but I’m unsure about the branch.

The details are hard to see. Does anyone recognize, from the symbol near the edge of the shoulder board or from its dark color, what branch this might be?

Thank you.

Looking for some help from the military enthusiast community. Attached is a picture of some of my ancestors around the time of the Great War (1914-1918). For the uniformed members of the British Army, can you help me identify their cap badges? This might help me discover who they are as I can link to information from old letters! Many thanks in advance!
