Leaving UF

Ever since I was in high school UF was my dream college. I was a top student, graduating 8th in my class, but now my time here is done. Despite being here for 4 years, I only was able to earn about a year and a half worth of credits due to my countless medical withdrawals and several major changes. It’s gotten to the point where I have no motivation, no direction in life, and I hate even walking to campus. As a result, I am leaving this university after this semester and I have no plans to come back. I don’t know what’s next for me, whether it’s community college, a trade, or something else entirely. I’ve just fully lost my will to ever take a class here again. The pressure was just too much. My point of posting this isn’t to invoke sympathy, it’s a message to all students that if you don’t like it here you don’t have to finish. I love you all, maybe you end up on better paths!

Just Opened For Fall 2026 Quest 2, Information Literacy in Medicine and Agriculture

Students: If you want to develop a toolkit to survive and thrive in the days of A.I. halucinations, disinformation and social media influencers, check out my course. I've taught this class (IDS2935) six times, and students love it.

We have all of the world's information at our fingertips, but it is buried in a sea of deception, disinformation and sensationalism. This ecosystem can be harmful to people, the environment, and industry, and slows the acceptance of new technologies in medicine and agriculture.

The solution is better understanding of self-deception and bias, and how to spot bad arguments. We discuss scientific papers, how to judge quality of evidence, and then how new technologies work, from corn to cancer. We address areas of scientific consensus and social uncertainty, like vaccines, GMOs, chemophobia, and new medical breakthroughs. Finally, we discuss effective communication strategies and how to change hearts and minds across the dinner table or across social media.

There is a significant writing requirement, but I'll support you through it. You will be a stronger writer at the end of the course.

Its relevance and impact have captured the attention of scholars nationwide, and I've been speaking about this class at national meetings, as other universities seek to develop parallel courses.

UF Promise

Hi guys!

I wanted to ask how UF Promise compares to the "normal" admits and what the student body looks like. I just saw in my portal that you need to start in the Summer B term and need to complete a 6 week Bridge Program. If someone could share their experience that would be great (e.g. PLLC dorms, workshops, schedule, fall semester, requirements, can you opt out, etc.)

Thanks!

What is the purpose of having both MAA 4226 and MAA 5228, or MTG 4302/5316

As far as I've gathered, these are the exact same classes taught at the same time by the same instructor, but one is for graduate students and the other is for undergrads? What is the purpose of having MAA 5228 (Modern Analysis 1) instead of just having MAA 4226?

Also, does anyone have experience with taking graduate courses as an undergrad? Do they cost more than undergrad classes etc.?

Bio 1 Exam 3 (Evolution) w/ Mary Hart?? HELP plz! 😭

Hey everyone! I'm in bio 1 rn and actually kinda enjoying unit 3 (evolution), but I really need to clutch up and lock in for this next exam to get the grade I want (like I need at least an 89% 😭).

Basically just wondering: how is exam 3 on evolution, especially if you had Mary Hart? Her RMP is questionable, but I've talked to her a few times, and she's been pretty kind. I just feel like her notes are fairly simple, and her exam will pull stuff out from left field.

I low-key flopped the first exam on cells (didn’t study enough + wasn’t that into it) and did alright on the genetics exam, but still not amazing.

Any tips, what to focus on, and/or how her exam is would be super-duper appreciated!! 🙏

Questions about UF honors and UF in general

Hey everyone,

I’m considering studying Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering in the University of Florida (UF) Honors Program and wanted to hear from current students or recent grads.

A few things I’m really curious about:

  1. Honors Program Experience

* How different is the honors track compared to the regular program (in terms of workload, difficulty, and expectations) for Mechanical Engineering?

* Are the extra research opportunities and seminars actually worth it?

* Do you feel like it meaningfully improved your skills or prospects (jobs, internships, grad school, etc.)?

* How intense is the day-to-day workload in Mech/Aero?

  1. General questions about UF
*. Is it convenient to get part-time jobs in campus or nearby ? what kind ?

* Whether in UF Honors or not, what are the job prospects like for UF's Mech/Aero graduates?

* How quickly are graduates typically able to find jobs, and what kind of starting salaries are common?

* How well-recognized is UF for Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering?

Would really appreciate any honest insights—thanks!

Roomate wanted: Lux 13 | Student Apartments in Gainesville, FL

Hi! I’m an incoming female student at UFCVM looking for a roommate—preferably another female vet med student—who might be interested in a 2x2 at Lux13.

Rent starts around $779 per person (plus additional fees—definitely check their website for full details and floor plans). They prefer that roommates apply together or list each other on the application, so I wanted to connect early.

A little about me: I’m a quiet, mature, and respectful student who values a clean and peaceful living space. I don’t party, drink, vape, or smoke. I’m former military, so I’m very responsible and easy to live with. In my free time, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing video games. I'd like to bring my cat, you you would have to be ok with cats.

I’d love to not only have a great roommate but also build a friendship—especially if you’re in vet med and want a study partner. I’m planning to stay for the full four years, so I’m really hoping to find a good long-term fit!

Feel free to reach out if you think we’d be a good match.

I will be in the area touring the facility and and other apartments later this month if you like to meet. 😊

Where do grad students live

I just accepted my offer. Can someone give me a quick rundown of vibes in neighborhoods near the campus?

I’m looking for somewhere that is within walking distance to bars/night life. It’s also a plus if the area has indie/artsy vibes.

Appreciate any advice🙏

Folk Band Maybe?

Anyone interested in Forming a Folk Band? Think of bands like Ceol, The Irish Rovers, etc. Also maybe doing some folk rendition of popular songs by local Gainesville musicians. I can sing most of the songs I have in mind for a set list. I also play guitar, I'm looking for an accordion player, Mandolinist, violinist (if you know how to play fiddle style that's a plus!), bassist, another guitarist and percussionist. Skill level is not important, just know your basic notes and we'll make it work since I am nowhere as good at guitar as I used to be.

I know some places we can play as a full band during their open mic sessions to showcase the project too. If anyone is interested, please let me know. :)

edit: forgot to Add Mandolin to the list of spots needed filled.
