Hey guys,
I'll be shooting a wedding next month with two Sony A7 IVs. I've decided on a 35mm f/1.4 and an 85mm f/1.4 GM as my base primes. Now I'm trying to decide on 2 more lenses to round out the kit.

The day looks like this:

  1. Civil ceremony: town hall, small room, limited movement
  2. Cocktail hour from 3pm:restaurant/outdoor area, afternoon light
  3. Reception from 5pm: venue is a converted church with high ceilings, warm but dim artificial lighting, moody atmosphere

I've narrowed it down to these candidates:

Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II

Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 GM

Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II

Sony FE 135mm f/1.8 GM

Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM

I keep second-guessing myself on whether a zoom (especially the 24-70 or 70-200) would be more practical for the unpredictability of a wedding day.

For those of you who shoot weddings regularly:

  • Would you stick with all primes, or swap one for a zoom?
  • Any experience shooting dark converted church/hall venues that changes your thinking?

Thanks in advance.

PS: It's a close family wedding, they're pretty chill and it's unpaid, because it's close family. I have a background in event & sports photography, but it's my second wedding shoot.
