I recently finished this piece, Atmospheric Pressure, as part of my Brandon Series. It’s a visceral record of transition—a manifesto of departure rendered in acrylic and heavy impasto. The composition is built on a narrative of ascent. I used crushing cobalts and indigos in the lower register to represent the weight of the depths, with circular motifs serving as "bubbles" of air. For the central band, I used modeling paste to build a violent, ridged texture, physically scratching through the layers to clear a path for the "flying high" phase in the upper register. In a moment of synchronicity, a freak thunderstorm hit the second I applied the final streaks of magenta and yellow. The lightning and thunder outside mirrored the canvas perfectly, acting as an environmental "exclamation point" for the work. It represents a triumphant shift in perspective: moving from the struggle of the layers into the freedom of the atmosphere.
