I’ve been dealing with seborrheic dermatitis for years now (started around age 13–14 with a mild dry scalp), but over the past 2 years it’s gotten a lot worse—and this year especially feels like a constant battle.

It used to just be dandruff, but now I’m getting flare-ups on:

  • Scalp (bad dandruff/dryness)
  • Ears (very dry, flaky)
  • Eyebrows
  • Face (redness on cheeks and nose)

I’ve seen a dermatologist and was told to use:

  • Nizoral for my scalp
  • Gentle face wash + moisturiser
  • Oil-free SPF

This helped a bit at first, especially the redness, but it keeps coming back. I’ve also spent around £300 trying different products and it feels like I’m just going in circles.

One thing I’ve noticed:

  • Nizoral works when I use it consistently
  • But as soon as I switch to a normal/cheaper shampoo, it comes back

Lifestyle-wise I’d say I’m pretty healthy:

  • Gym + running regularly
  • Clean diet (meat, veg, rice, dairy-free yoghurt)
  • No alcohol for 4 months
  • Plenty of water

The only downside is I’m working a lot and not sleeping as much as I should.

At this point I’m just frustrated because I feel like I’m doing everything right, but my skin is getting worse—not better. I also struggle with general skin issues like blackheads, so it’s not just the dermatitis.

Questions:

  • Has anyone actually found a long-term routine that keeps this under control?
  • Do you have to use antifungal shampoo forever?
  • Could the face redness be something like rosacea as well?
  • What made the biggest difference for you?

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences—feels like I’m stuck in a loop with this.
