Hi all, I’m just starting out with Tomb Kings and Warhammer in general (although I have been painting minis for a year or so now but have never played a game). So far I have 20 skeleton spearmen and a Tomb King on foot (with flail mace - the model that you get in the starter box and that most folks put on the dragon). Next up I am going to go for a liche priest and then 20 skeleton archers.
I am just going to be playing with my friends so nothing super competitive. I’m just trying to go for a viable 1500pt army that could realistically win some games and be fun to play.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Since close-ups were requested, and original post can't have additional pictures added.
Models:
-HQ, command units, tomb guard, scorpions from Monolith Arts (mummy army)
-Skeleton warriors and archers from Txarli Factory
-Necrolith Colossus from Archvillain Games (Empire of the Sands)
Start of a project.
Great king Demothep the Sand Hawk has kicked his resin priests out of their dusty tombs. Mortuary painters are being roused to fully express the great king's glory.
Hey hey people, I’ve started playing this game a few months ago and I got the Tomb Kings starter box and a few minis here and there. The thing is I really don’t know how to make a list, in the games I’ve played with my friends these last month I always feel like my armies don’t do enough and I only lose slowly every match.
In our last campaign we are currently doing a few battles at 1500 points and then we will scalate to 2000. I created these two list but I don’t know if they are good enough.
1500 list
135 - Mortuary Priest, Wizard Level 2, Elementalism, Cloak of the Dunes
55 - Mortuary Priest, Wizard Level 1, Elementalism
114 - Royal Herald, Battle Standard Bearer, War Banner, Great Weapon
215 - Tomb King, General, Flail of Skulls, Armour of Meteoric Iron
105 - 20 Skeleton Archers, Master of Arrows
66 - 5 Skeleton Horse Archers, Chariot Runners, Master of Horse
120 - 25 Skeleton Warriors, Master of Arms, Standard Bearer, Magic Standard, Nehekharan Phalanx
265 - 23 Tomb Guard, Tomb Captain, Standard Bearer, Nehekharan Phalanx
75 - Tomb Scorpion, Ambushers
154 - 3 Ushabti, Greatbow, Ancient
195 - Necrosphinx
2000 list
250 - High Priest, Wizard Level 4, Elementalism, Lore Familiar, Cloak of the Dunes
115 - Mortuary Priest, Wizard Level 2, Elementalism, Amulet of the Serpent
114 - Royal Herald, Battle Standard Bearer, War Banner, Great Weapon
420 - Tomb King, General, Necrolith Bone Dragon, Flail of Skulls, Talisman Of Protection
130 - 25 Skeleton Archers, Master of Arrows
66 - 5 Skeleton Horse Archers, Chariot Runners, Master of Horse
119 - 26 Skeleton Warriors, Master of Arms, Nehekharan Phalanx
359 - 27 Tomb Guard, Tomb Captain, Standard Bearer, Icon of the Sacred Eye, Nehekharan Phalanx
75 - Tomb Scorpion, Ambushers
154 - 3 Ushabti, Greatbow, Ancient
195 - Necrosphinx
Any help with the lists and strategies will be apreciated!
Another big block of skelebobs done, I have real trouble with repetition so I’ll be rewarding myself with some big models next!
If a Tomb Prince, Tomb King, Mortuary Priest or High Priest take a Chariot or Warsphinx as a mount, do they replace:
A) All of the crew;
B) One of the crew;
C) None of the crew, and are added on
This is particularly important for Tomb Princes/Kings as their My Will Be Done on a full crew as well as their unit could be a big swing.
Hello, fellow kings and queens. I am starting a TOW tomb kings army and wanted to ask your opinion on using the End times/AoS Morghast miniatures as Necrolith Colossi on 50mm square bases.
I just really like the miniatures and will probably buy them anyway, but since I have no intention of starting an Osiarch army, I kinda thought this could be a good use for them.
Thoughts?
Could we pin a thread on here for the new guys to help them ask us for Army list advice? Or a mod review the posts and then refer to a basic format? Only because it will make everyone's live easier i feel, most of the new guys ask a very general question that no one can answer until they give more detail
For example
Tell us:
What models do you have/going to buy next?
Are you playing casual or wanting competitive?
How many points?
How do you think you want to play? I.e. Magic, shooting, Infantry, chariots, monsters, all of the above.
I was thinking about this recently, considering that :
-Our melee cavalry is shit
-We recently got barded steeds for our characters
-We only have tomb guards on foot (and tomb guard chariots in the royal host)
How likely is it that we get a unit of tomb guard cavalry on barded steeds to go with the new mounts for our characters?
It's probably just wishful thinking but I feel like they would be the natural choice for a new TK unit. What do you think?
Finished my king on his bony dragon. Really like this model and had a blast painting it up! Except those little bugs on the base of the rock, screw them hiding in every corner.
Although I love the dragon (common its a mf bone dragon). I can't stop wondering why GW didn't pick something more related to TKs, like giant scorpions or even a giant scarab.
What do you think?
Started these guys last November and finally finished them last night. I'm happy with how they turned out but very tired of looking at them everyday for nearly six months. My next project is the Tomb King and Liche Priest on foot minis.
The start of my next project, characters on foot. With this I will have a Tomb Prince with a two-handed weapon (Warsphinx Tomb King already painted), another with sword and shield, and one armed with two hand weapons. And my old nudie Liche Priest will be replaced.
Including the new Bone Dragon kit, I hate how GW has changed how they do their minis. Why do the heads and necks need to be separate pieces? Why are arms in two parts? Why have intricate detail in areas that will be covered up?
Also, its interesting to see that the old 6th Ed metal Tomb King character minis are very close if not identical in scale to the new ToW minis.
Good (after)mornoonight.
I just got a steal of a deal on the starter box, but I have never ever touched a rule book for this game.
uh.. What is a semi good starting list using the contents of the box, including which specific builds yall would recommend.

While Tomb King themed the army was meant to be used for all undead. Hence the zombie dragons even though the fluff says they were mummified.
