I just scored a Synapse 25 in red blend cordura with wasabi lining. 😄 Is the red blend cordura more raspberry/pinkish red, or more on the traditional red side? I think it will be gorgeous either way, but I'm wondering about it. Thanks!
I have an old Synapse 25 (~2016) where the zippers never quite fully "broke in" (i.e. glided smoothly). I have used zipper lubricants, but they still don't glide smooth.
I also have an very old cordura Brain bag I bought used in 2021, those zippers are a dream and glide smoothly.
I'm in the market for a new Brain bag, and I'm wondering if the zippers are more similar to the very old cordura brain bag or the old synapse. As of now, on the website, it seems like the Brain bag and Synapse 25 both have #10 YKK zippers in their main compartment (https://www.tombihn.com/collections/all-tom-bihn-stuff/products/synapse-25?\_pos=3&\_fid=d6d3e6534&\_ss=c%3Fvariant%3D46514712674493&variant=46514712674493 and https://www.tombihn.com/collections/all-tom-bihn-stuff/products/brain-bag?\_pos=12&\_fid=d6d3e6534&\_ss=c%3Fvariant%3D41750504276157&variant=41750504276157).
Even direct comparison between the two bags shows the zippers on the main compartments may be the same, so why do they glide so differently?
Hello all! I have a Synik 30L and am looking for suggestions on the best packing solutions for my trip. Looking to “one bag” it, what would the best type of packing cubes / organization in the subs experience to use? Also unrelated other than soaking in the sink is there a preferred spot cleaning product that you all would recommend for my bag ( exterior is sunglow )
Thank you all in advance :)
Edit*. I will be going to Poland/Ukraine at the end of June
I had attached paracord to my Techonaut 30, but on my most recent trip I had to take my husband’s 45 instead. I had forgotten just how ridiculously loud TB backpacks can be. I don’t want to remove the metal pulls, but is there anything else that can be done to make the zippers not so loud? The solution I have on my bag using the official pull cords just doesn’t work that well, so I’m hoping for better options.
Still trying to surprise my friend for her baby coming. Found out she really only likes Saguaro (and maybe verde but especially Saguaro) but not olive (and of course I already purchased an olive bag for her😢 - she of course, doesn’t know this)… anyone have anything? Baby is coming soon… like any day soon. I need a bag asap. She wants gray inside, I know that might not even be possible, so show me what you’ve got and I’ll see what might works. She does prefer a 19, but might consider a 25. I have items to trade or I can purchase. If anyone can come with a paramour that’s another bag we also talked about… so I’ll throw that on the table if you’ve got one too. Thanks!
I bought my wife a Truck in Aubergine for Mother’s Day. Well, this morning she wanted to walk up to the farmers market and then go to the grocery store. I decided it was a great opportunity to give her an early Mother’s Day gift. So I presented her the Truck, still in the box. (Albeit a strange raised eyebrow from her when receiving a Tom Bihn box…she knows what those usually mean. 😉). She loved it when she realized what it is…and gladly went off about her day, Truck in arm. By the way, incredible handles…love the padding.
Fast forward a couple hours and she walked in the door proudly with her new tote full of dinner ingredients and fresh flowers…raving about how the bag worked while she was out and about. She loves her new truck.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms in the world.
Edit for typo
When I ordered two mystery grabs I sent an email asking to avoid ‘earthy’ or ‘classic backpack’ patterns, and particularly avoid navy, orange/burnt sienna, or olive. Anything monochromatic or jewel/pastel tones were perfectly fine.
They went hard with all grey variants which I couldn’t be happier with. The bottom interior lining is navy but I like it being tucked away.
Got my mom a raspberry truck for Mother's Day so she'll have something nice to carry her farmer's market hauls. Filled with some of her favorite things - teas, shortbread cookies, candles, and a small gardenia. Fingers crossed she loves it!
Edit: sale pending with u/HangoverPoboy
Up for sale is my Synik 26 Guide's Edition in Ursa. It's in great shape but I'm switching to a larger bag. I blacked out the Tom Bihn logo patch with a black Sharpie made for fabric. I no longer have the frame sheet, I removed it and gave it to a fellow Redditor. I'm sure you can get a replacement by contacting Tom Bihn. Also, there is a tiny pin hole directly beneath the interior tag along the sewing (see pictures, you'll probably need to zoom in to see it). It's been there since I bought the bag new and I don't see it ever being an issue because of its size and location. Edit 2: Disregard, this hole is normal. Thanks to u/mphares2 for the explanation.

As seen in the pictures, the bag comes with the following OEM items: hip belt, interior tie down straps, and sternum strap. It also comes with two Tom Bihn lash straps to attach gear to the bottom attachment points of the pack.
Price: $250 via Paypal, shipped within the Continental US. I sold a Synapse 25 here before if you check my post history.
Just sharing my thoughts in case anyone is in the fence buying this bag. I had tried multiple bags in various styles for work with no long term success and lots of annoyance so I decided to go all in on Tom Binh.
I have been putting my new bag through its paces and am truly grateful for it, definitely worth the money for the central water bottle pocket alone!
The straps are so comfortable and I love my keys being clipped on and safe. I am a social worker traveling between clients’ homes and my office (not to mention my home office and mobile car office lol) and this bag stands out for keeping me better organized than ever before!
I have a few 👻 🐳s of various sizes arriving next week and then my setup will be complete! I took off the hip straps and am leaving the chest straps for now in case I may want to use them. I thought I might need to get the strap keepers but it doesn’t seem to be necessary.
The black Spectron has grown on me, it’s still kinda masculine for me - gotta find a cute pin ☺️ - and I would say it’s softening/less stiff even with a weeks use.
Also, my MacBook Air 13” and similar sized work laptop both fit in the laptop compartment together actually but I never take them both lol, the side catty corner slide is easy to navigate with either laptop.
I got my black Spectron Synik 22 maybe two weeks ago, followed by some 👻 🐳s and key 🔑 straps, and I am loving the system so much than I went ahead and ordered a Bordeaux/Lemonade Paradigm 🎒 in Spectron! I started a new job over a year ago that has had me living out of a bag (and I have tried so many and none hold a candle to the Synik 22!!!) and when I have not been working, I basically have fallen into the habit of just carrying a tiny little clutch zip bag with keys, Chapstick, comb, two kinds of earphones, and credit card, plus juggle my personal & work phones 📱 📱 but with the Paradigm, I can just move over my 👻 🐳 pouches in less than a minute and throw in whatever I might need for my off work time and I am good to go… We just got annual passes for Universal, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay and the Paradigm will be perfect for that as well! I am especially sold on the fact that the Paradigm has the central water bottle space and the drip hole because I like to freeze my Nalgenes! 🧊 anyway just sharing and would love to hear from other Paradigm lovers while I wait for mine!
Hey all, I’m looking to get my first Tom Bihn bag and I’ve been stuck between the Synik 26 or 30 and the Synapse 25, which appears to be a relatively common issue. I’ve read through multiple previous posts/opinions but wanted to see if there’s any specific input.
I’m a 5’11” male. The use for the backpack is going to be primarily city day trips and amusement parks with a toddler along with flying about 2-3 times per year. I do often carry a 15” laptop while traveling. I want to avoid an oversized bag, leaning away from the 30 for that reason, but was not sure if based on height that it really isn’t that big. To note, zipper being difficult at times does not bother me.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time comment
Thinking of getting a Paradigm for EDC and want to get some feedback from peeps who use the bag. Pictures and load oats are helpful.
Looking for one of these. I live in the US. Show me what you’ve got.
Brain bag in Ursa and Moss for myself and a Daylight backpack in Ursa and Moss for my teen!
Featuring: Timmy Turtle and Fergus the Frog hiking buddies!
Hello - I just bought my first bag from Tom Bihn. I decided to get the pop tote in aubergine for an EDC to my internship this summer (internship for two judges woot). I also got a mystery grab bag in large for a lunchbox and a ghost whale organizer in raspberry in the mini size. I hope I get a color I like for the grab bag lol.
I'm wondering - has anyone bought either a TB crossbody or a a third party strap and used the o-rings on the outside pockets to rig a cross-body situation? I think I'll like the tote aspect, but a cross-body option would be nice.
This is an odd request. I got a Synik 26 second hand and the original owner took out the framesheet and didn’t put it back in before shipping. They said they would look for it, but it’s been radio silence. Does anyone have one that they don’t use and would be willing to part with?
