Did i find Marketplace gold??
My latest marketplace find from yesterday. Picked up this km130r for $70 with the description of "stihl trimmer, ran before put away but don't know anything about it". I'm guessing the lady was cleaning out her recently deceased father's house or something based on what all she was selling and not knowing anything about any of it really just wanting it all gone.
Put fuel in it when I got home and gave it a couple pulls and it tried running but not great. Looking like I'll be able to freshen up the carb, adjust the valves, clean it up and have a solid kombi system 130 for less than $100 though which I'm pretty happy about. Feel like I made out like a bandit on this one! What do you guys think? Haven't ever messed with these 4 mix trimmers so I'm excited to play with it since one of these new at $540 is a bit out of my tax bracket lol
Bonus points- got to piss off a guy in a BMW because he thought I shouldn't be taking up a bay with a mower. Took an extra few minutes just for him.
Just picked up 2 running 660s for 700$
Just picked up two running Stihl 660 magnums for 700 bucks one came with the 28 inch bar ready to cut and the other what’s the power head that starts and runs but it’s missing a muffler screw and the handle is broken. Still an absolute deal for them both. Sold one to my buddy for 350 does he want to rebuild it so essentially I Got a 660 magnum ready to go for 350 bucks. A lot bigger than I need probably gonna try to sell it on eBay. I’ll post my eBay link in my bio if anyone’s interested.
New to me 044

Switching 2013 MS 261 C-M (M-Tronic) from regular mix to MotoMix/alkylate? Too risky?
Hey everyone,
I have an older Stihl MS 261 C-M (M-Tronic) from 2013. Since day one, it has been run exclusively on regular pump gas mix (50:1). I am a light user, putting about 5 liters (1.3 gallons) of fuel through it per year.
The saw still runs great, but I am thinking about switching it over to Stihl MotoMix (or other canned alkylate fuel) for better storage stability and less nasty fumes.
Since it’s an early M-Tronic model and has been running on standard mix for over a decade, I have a few concerns:
- Carbon deposits: Will the cleaner alkylate fuel loosen old carbon buildup on the piston/cylinder and cause a score?
- Rubber parts: Will the seals or fuel lines shrink or leak due to the lack of aromatics in the canned fuel?
- M-Tronic calibration: Do I need to perform a manual M-Tronic reset after switching fuels, or will it adjust on its own?
Is it worth making the switch at this point, or should I just stick to what the saw is used to?
Thanks for any advice!
I bought a pack of stihl branded 1/8 files for my pole saw and one of them is completely smooth.
Is this a manufacturing error or something I don’t know about?
I have a Stihl MS250, bought it 2 years ago, has maybe 10 hours of run time on it. I only run tru-fuel in it, never run the bar dry, and I cannot for the life of me keep this damn saw working
If I run it for more then 2 hours during a day and put it away, there is a 99% chance it won't start again without ripping the entire thing apart. Every Single Time. If I start it back up within an hour or 2 it will be fine... more then that and its guaranteed to be dead again
Has gone back to the dealer 3 times already, each time they flush it all out, it starts back up and runs fine for another 2 - 3 hours and then its dead again. Have bought fuel there had them fill it with everything, I verified start in front of them so I'm sure i'm doing it right... go home, cut for a few hours, put it away, next day its not going to start
I run it at least once every 2 - 3 months just to keep it running (not cutting anything), I always use tru-fuel that has been tightly sealed, I always fill the bar oil every time and I cannot get this damn saw to be reliable
what am I doing wrong here, I don't get it and I don't have time to keep spending every day fixing a damn saw instead of doing what I need it to do
GTA 40 Kit UK - no stock anywhere?
I'm trying to get hold of a GTA 40 kit for a job I need to do and typically every retailer that seems to ship to the UK is out of stock of the kit with batteries.
Long shot I know but wondering anyone on here knows where I can get one in stock?
Thanks.
Which one to keep?
I recently was given an ms 210c, ms170, and ms 310(no bar). So far the 170 and 210c run, but I do not know which I should keep, the 170 is so small and nice for my little truck, but the 210c is Just so easy to start. So for those who have owned and used chainsaws for more than a week, what advice do you have for me? I will sell one or maybe two, so right now out of these two do I keep?
Just venting
Sharpened 4-5 chains the last 2 days 1 for my ms 250 and 3-4 for my ms 261. Not one will throw good chips . Getting saw dust one won’t even cut butter. I normally do pretty good sharpening. One was good until it dulled out. Yea I check to make sure they were on the right way. What was the worst I was cutting 10 miles from home.
Wood was red oak that was taken down 3 weeks ago. Guy said I could have all of it easy access.
Picked this bad boy up for $50. Of course it started right up. I love STIHL!
So I bought this safety chain a few months ago, and it’s what I use when I have to cut through really dirty wood or loamy stuff, and it’s on like, it’s 8th sharpen, and I’m debating just throwing it away but I’m now somewhat determined to make it last as long as I can 😂 here’s a before and after. We’ll see how much longer it lasts.
Choke won’t stay put
First time working on the carb of my ms170 and now it won’t start it’s worse off than before I did this and can’t figure out what’s wrong with it
New FS91R questions/issues?
First use of the FS91R and unsure of a few things.
- Is there a break in period on the engine? It took 10-12 pulls today to start from cold start and it died 2-3 times til and to me it sounds chocked for air. Not sure if that makes sense, it seems like it wants to stall a lot
- is the stock string line always bad? It keeps breaking and is brittle. I only ask this because i returned a FS70 for the 91 because it was only 20 dollars more and that had bad trimmer line also.
- Since i already returned the 70 and upped to the 91 I was told i have to keep it but if i end up hating it with a passion is there no way to get out of it without having to sell privately?
Thanks for any insight. if it matters i am not a pro and just now trying to get back into gas lawn equipment so please if you will be gentle.
MS 500i stalling issues
Writing because I'm at a loss. I've used this saw multiple times without issue. Last night after about a half hour of use with multiple start and stops, it no longer wanted to engage and would stall out. Engine was plenty warm, fuel and bar oil full. I started it up again this morning with no issues, let it warm up, and the issue is repeating. I havent had this issue with my smaller stihl saws, am I missing something with this big boy? Thanks
FS55RC GETTING HOT!
My trimmer is getting so hot when I run it that it melts the plastic cover what is causing this and how do I fix it?
