I'm relatively sure this is a photo negative in this unopened envelope from 1929. My curiosity always makes me want to open letters like this.

Some context: this is a private collector who buys up anything Springfield related, so there is likely nothing special about this letter, sender, or recipient. Were I to ask the collector, he'll probably say to open it.

If it were a letter, I'd leave it be, but the fact it looks like a negative makes me want to open it.

Edit to add: I'm disappointed, it was a trick of light that made two squares of newspaper, not even an article, just random squares, to look like a negative. "Why negative shaped if not negative?!?!"

Did we get a tornado siren??

I moved to Springfield during covid and worked from home for a few years, but I've worked 100% in the office for the last year or so, until last week. There was some siren that I'm guessing was tested just now, at noon (Monday 5/4/2026 if you find this later). I'd never heard that when I was working from home before, and I'm also pretty sure I'd never heard it before on any of the Mondays I've taken off in the last year.

I found this article, which says it was posted in 2013 and updated last month. It says, "Enon and Mad River Twp. will be able to hear their sirens at noon. First Monday testing is a great way for people to know how well they can hear the sirens located in population centers in the township." ... but I've never heard this siren before.

Maybe the wind was just blowing in the right direction for the first First Monday in six years??
