Scabies exposure!!!

Help!!! A friend of mine came to visit for my birthday at stayed in my bed with me for 4 nights. The day after she got back home she went to the Dr and found out she had scabies the whole time. I tried to get permethrin to preemptively treat my 18 month old, husband, and self, but they won’t prescribe it until we literally have bugs falling out of our skin???!!!?!?!?! I’m deep cleaning everything especially fabrics right now and dousing shit in white vinegar and tea tree and hot water but what more can I do???? Do wooden toys need disinfected too?? How do I effectively attempt to prevent this from becoming an issue?? I’m supposed to have another friend come hang out tomorrow for a girls night, but is it safe to have her over? I’ve never had scabies or witnessed it so pls help!

Edit: I already called my friend and told her we needed to reschedule no worries there

I had scabies for 3 MONTHS and finally got rid of it here’s what actually worked for me.

At first, a dermatologist prescribed permethrin cream for me and my boyfriend. (We live in Dubai btw) We did the treatment correctly the first week and repeated it on day 7 like instructed. We washed sheets, cleaned everything, etc. But somehow we got reinfested (pretty sure from the couch). We were still itching like CRAZY and honestly it felt like the permethrin wasn’t doing anything.

So I went to another dermatologist at a different clinic, and this is what finally helped:

every day for 3 days apply Benzyl benzoate for 3 days straight AND IVERMECTIN YOU NEED IT BRO DONT USE PERMETHRIN THAT SHIT DOESNT WORK
NO SHOWER NO WATER NO WASHING HANDS (no contact with water basically) during those 3 days
Ivermectin prescribed by a dermatologist + second dose on day 7
Sulfur soap every shower afterward (this helped SO much with the skin)
The biggest thing though: ENVIRONMENT CONTROL.

My dermatologist told me if I really wanted this gone, I needed to leave my apartment for 7 days. So I literally booked an Airbnb for a week while doing treatment.
I put ALL my clothes, blankets, towels, etc. into plastic bags with gloves on and left them untouched for over a week (honestly closer to 2 weeks because I became paranoid). Don’t come at me saying “3 days is enough” — maybe for some people, but I personally got reinfected and my dermatologist confirmed longer isolation was safer in stubborn cases.

I also stopped seeing my boyfriend for 2 weeks until he was fully treated ( he did the same treatment as me ) because otherwise you can keep passing it back and forth.

What finally worked for me:
Benzyl benzoate
Ivermectin
Sulfur soap (very important you need it everytime you shower it’s a antiparasit soap they hate it those motherfuckers)
STRICT cleaning/isolation
Staying away from reinfestation sources

Now I can finally say goodbye to these little demons 😭
Just wanted to share in case anyone feels hopeless because I KNOW how mentally exhausting this is. AND I PROMISE YOU IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT I SAID THEY WILL NEVER BOTHER YOU AGAIN !!!!!

Is this PR?

I went to the doctor and she said it was PR. I have a herald patch under my breast that was small then got bigger, then I started getting these spots all over my legs. The spots are now all over the back of my thighs, legs, stomach and back. And now it’s slowly spreading to my arms. I’ve been misdiagnosed before with other issues and am really worried that this isn’t PR. It itches like crazy even with the topical steroid I’ve been using.

Scabies diagnosis after nearly a year — what helped you most??

Hi all,

I finally got diagnosed with scabies today after nearly a YEAR of being told it was eczema/allergies and being given steroid creams, antihistamines and emollients, etc.

The NHS derm waiting list is ridiculously long at the moment so I finally paid to go private and was diagnosed with Scabies within minutes. At first, the itch was localised but now it's become pretty much widespread.

I'm just so, so sick of it.

I’ve been told to start permethrin ASAP, and I’m also planning on using Eurax and tea tree oil between treatments, plus doing all the washing/cleaning/laundry.

Just wanted to ask:

How effective was permethrin for you?

Anything else you’d recommend doing?

How long did the itching take to finally calm down?

Honestly I'm feeling relieved to finally know what it is, but also incredibly frustrated and overwhelmed that this got missed for so long by my GP multiple different occasions.

Thank you in advance!

Now had scabies for months, picked it up around the same time as my girlfriend when she came over to see me at a hotel and we both noticed bumps afew weeks later.

several rounds of permethrin has done nothing other than subside the itching and stop new rashes popping up for a week or two.

Following all I can to get rid, from putting all clothes I have worn in the wash, changing bedding, new towel every single day but it is just relentless itching every single day, even waking me up through the night some days.

Last round of permethrin appeared to help a lot, even started thinking they were clearing up until the last 4/5 days where I’ve noticed these dots appear on my stomach/chest aswell as feeling itchy again through the day whenever I get warm.

I no longer have the bumps inbetween my fingers from the first image, it is more like the image after it now - dry, red & itchy spots down the side of my hand/wrist.

Please help with any advice possible, I just need this to go away as it is ruining most days for me.

Post-scabies marks still persisting months after treatment

Hi everyone….

I got scabies back in August and treated it with permethrin lotion. After 2 to 3 months the itching completely stopped, which indicated the treatment was working. However, it is now May and the marks and spots left behind are still visible on my skin. The infection itself seems to be gone but the skin marks from it have not fully faded yet despite all this time.
Has anyone experienced this or have any advice?

I thought this was contact dermatitis as I have extremely sensitive skin and have been developing lots of allergies, but now I’ve noticed my daughter has bumps on her legs. I can’t find any burrows on either of us, so I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to this with being misdiagnosed with contact dermatitis. I’ve had this rash for about 2 weeks now. It’s on my neck, chest, lower stomach, elbows, and knees.

Urgent care doc said possibly scabies?

https://preview.redd.it/xrb788042i0h1.png?width=1940&format=png&auto=webp&s=aaecb7f90f7204195d1b284dbae44e7ac4457be8

This is on my thigh. It started itching a week ago and looked like a small bite. Over the next five days, it developed into this. The urgent care doctor said it looked like it could be scabies, so I used permethrin that night (this was three days ago), and have been washing it twice a day and putting hydrocortisone cream on it. It keeps growing, and I keep waking up with new bites, despite washing and changing my clothes and bedding daily. I haven't had skin-to-skin contact with anyone who's infected. Help?

Scabies?

My aunt is living in a nursing house and caught scabies there. Even though I don't visit her, my mom and cousin do. I've noticed my cousin scratching quite a bit lately. I am just afraid that the mites might have found their way into my household.

I already had scabies back in 2019-2020, and this is worst fear ever.

Anyone had post scabies that looks like this?

It’s been about 5 weeks since my last permethrin cream treatment and I’m left confused more than anything.

My rash overall has massively gone down and I feel way less itchy (I was mostly affected on my waist and upper leg area) though as seen in the pictures above my left arm is in still quite a state (my right arm is much better).

I was thinking it could be post scabies due to the symptoms getting better overall though I was wondering if anyone has had a similar effect on their skin during this period.

I do also have a history of having eczema/dermatitis, so I was wondering if the post scabies has made this come out again and worse

Just looking to see if anyone’s had a similar experience and how that turned out for them, thanks

My initial scabies symptoms were not severe, except for pretty big sized nodules on my hips and one or two on my legs.

The itching on my legs and hips and belt line was worst. I never had any clear burrow signs except for maybe one between my toes and a small line of red dots on my foot which was enough for the Dr to prescribe me permethrin.

I did everything correctly, I got my flatmate to do the treatment as well as a FWB and his whole household (I wasn't very popular for enforcing this but it got done) as well as my parents who briefly stayed a night before I was diagnosed. I sent them all the information and ensured it was all done correctly and at the same time.

I was practically paranoid about it, I bagged all my clothes and pillows for 10 days and tumble dried all my bedding on hot, and repeated for the second treatment.

I am aware of post scabies so the continued itching didn't concern me. I kept coming up in little red dots and the nodules continued to itch for at least 3 weeks.

Then everything seemed to calm down. I was still itching but only here and there and never as bad at night anymore.

The nodules were flattening and some of them have disappeared entirely and still remain gone.

I had two old nodules on my inner thigh that became really itchy for a couple of days but have since calmed down again.

I'm coming up to the 6 week mark after treatment and within the past few days my legs have started itching again, although not as intense and I don't wake up itching.

I never stopped getting the little red dots here and there on my arms and legs and wasn't suspicious of them as there were no clear burrow signs so it had to just be the mites pushing out my skin.

With the returned itching of my legs also came with the nodules on my hips beginning to become irritated and raise up and itch again. Again, the itching is not severe.

Yesterday I noticed my left hip has developed a rash on it, something I never even saw on myself before I used the treatment. That's what I've included pictures of. It's fairly itchy but I can ignore it mostly.

The circled spot is one of my hip nodules that has begun to be irritated again. Unfortunately I have a lot of self harm scars in this area so it's hard to tell what the skin looks like under the scarring, so please keep this in mind.

I have also noticed a nodule appearing on my inner thigh, although not as itchy as the last one and it seems to be going away faster, and not growing in size like the other ones did before treatment.

I can't remember if this is an old nodule that has risen up again as I seem to feel familiar about the placement but can't remember for sure.

My feet and hands are spotless. I have mild contact dermatitis on one finger that has got considerably better since treatment but still flairs up every so often. Nothing on my wrists or inner elbows either. Mild acne on my shoulders and face but had that for life. I sometimes feel crawling sensation over the soles of my feet since before treatment and it hasn't really gone away except it's not itchy just a weird sensation that I think is more psychological, esp as there are no marks on my feet at all anymore.

Considering everything, do you think I've been reinfested or shall I wait until the 8 week mark to see if this is just another phase of the post treatment reaction?

I'll be honest, I'm more stressed about this than I'm letting on. It was a really unpleasant experience having to force everyone I know to do the treatment and it almost cost me my FWB relationship, I really don't want to have to go through that mental strain again.

I've just never seen a rash like this on me before. Maybe it's just dermatitis or a heat rash?

Any help appreciated and please keep in mind I've got a pretty delicate mental state about this.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I used the cream 3 times as the first time the pharmacy told me it could be crabs (which I doubted immediately but went along with anyway) and so by the end of the treatment I had used permethrin 3 times, once for supposed crabs, then a week later when I was told it was scabies, and then a week after that to complete the cycle of treatment. Also my flatmate hasn't been experiencing any symptoms. He wasn't itching even when I was in active infestation, except he had a rash that looked like dermatitis on his wrist that since treatment has gone away entirely so we're guessing that was his symptoms. He hasn't experienced anything else since. My FWB last time I saw him said his skin has been improving so much although he still itches but not as bad, I haven't checked in with him since the 3 week mark or so.

PLEASEE god end this

6 weeks post partum my newborn 6 weeks old has been diagnosed with scabies… I’m mentally exhausted from this and at this stage feeling very s****al from dealing with the situation from not being listened to by drs…

I started itching mad at the end of my pregnancy been to 5-6 drs and hospital admissions but told I had a purugo of pregnancy skin condition.. creams and lotions after one after another it would come and go.. then I realised my 2 year old son started getting the same but again hospital said it was excema …

Annyways fast forward here I am.. my newborns skin started getting bad when he was 2 weeks old and drs said it was baby acne/allergy..

I wouldent stop till I got seen by a dermatologist dr that confirmed scabies .. I broke down to my knees in there office and explained I have been begging drs to listen and to treat us long ago and they Dident …
She reinsured me that we will get treated and baby will be ok that he’s mild…

So I’m moving house and at the moment all we have is beds .. I bought new mattresses and kept the plastics on.. new bedsheets .. and new duvests and pillows we are now 3 days post scabie treatment with Lyclear cream.. on us all and me and husband took oral and creamed… my clothes have been washed on 90 deg steam wash. And I washed all surfaces I got new couches in the new property and covers with plastic as we have to sit down we are a family…

I don’t think we are doing enough…

I have itch still but never had sighns of bad spots or burros just used to get one or two small blisters on my feet …

My son I treated his hair he’s 2.5 years old my heart breaks as he’s been not treated right his hair is thin from months of scratching I’m heartbroken we are not on route to treatment but I’m here thinking what if I Dident do the cream properly..
I feel like I seen a difference with my newborns skin .. but my brain is mentally distroyed..
I am so stressed I caused my self to bleed(period) I don’t know what else to do.. my postpartum is ruined I’m not coping and I’m so broken for my kids..
I’m so desperate to apply Lyclear again but it’s damaging my son’s skin (2year old) and I’m moisturising with natural epiderm cream every nappy change…

I’m drowning please someone tell me am I doing the ringht thing

Also we don’t even have floors in new house so we are able to keep the place maintained I just hate seeing my son sleep on plastic…

I ran out of the old house as soon as we had the 24 hours of treatment done and started fresh…

I’m scared to drive my car as I can’t clean it properly after a damaging labour and still in pain..
😭 I can’t cope I feel so bad for my children having this disgusting thing

Is this too good to be true ?

I finshed 2 rounds of Premethin 5 days ago and the day I finished Premethin I took a dose of ivermectin to and in the 5 days since I finished Premethin all my symptoms are gone rash is healing and basically have no itching. I would have perfered 2 rounds of ivermectin but uk gp prescribed me only one for after Premethin treatment is completed as he said I’ll probably be treated anyways. But ye I’m having 0 itch at all my rashes are healing I’m feeling really good. Is this a good sign or maybe I should wait another week or 2 before being excited to have a normal life again ?

Active or post?

Completed round 2 of permethrin 3.5 weeks ago and followed protocol. Symptoms seemed nearly gone until start of week 3 post-treatment.

Rash appeared (pic 1) 3 days ago. Mildly itchy all over but can sleep at night, but the rash definitely gets aggravated under hot showers. Found a new burrow but it dried super quickly and wasn’t itchy. Now getting new spots on fingers in a linear formation (pic 2). I’m guessing it’s a reinfestation, but has anyone experienced a flare-up like this during post scabies? Really don’t want to nuke my skin w perm again if I don’t need to.

Could this be possible Scabies?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know if this could possibly be scabies. I want to peel off my skin because of how itchy my body feels.

u/CrossApple_Sauce — 3 days ago

I know for sure I have scabies due to looking at my skin cell under a microscope at the dermatologist and seeing the mite. But I didn’t realize how bad of a case I had until I saw some of your posts. My arms look horrible and I’m so worried about this never clearing up. Is there anything I can do besides permethrin and ivermectin? Any tips or advice would help me out big time. Thanks
