Fic blurb:

"...I've been hanging around there for 300 years—I think I'd notice something haunting the lake!" Jack shook his head at the absurdity of the idea.

In which Jamie reads a local folklore book, Jack is a bit slow on the uptake, and turns out said book is very inaccurate…

In my story: Jack was a smith in a village that is dying from a famine. A bunch of imps have plenty of food (likely stolen from their village). Jack tricks them by creating a lantern with a face like theirs and propping it on a scarecrow to make it look like a boss. Since the imps are very simple creatures, they fall for it. Jack grabs everything they could and tries to bring it back to the village. But the imps attack. Jack, in desperation, sets the forest on fire to kill them off, resulting in their death as well.

I know it’s a far cry from the original Stingy Jack myth… but I wanted to do my own thing. Tell me what you guys think.
