New Addiction - Better late then never!?

Long story short - AT BEST I have been in and out of most of my hobbies, much less RC, FOR YEARS

Took a leap this past weekend…

Fresh out the box:

Axial SCX30

Traxxas TRX4M

Loving them both - I can hardly imagine the upgrades and their impacts!?

Searching through options and outlets for cases and bags for storage and carry.

Looking forward to the scale/craft/realism side of it all as well - started a little crawler course in the backyard!

There is SO MUCH nostalgia and potential wrapped up in this hobby!! (w/ vintage bodies especially & 3D printing!?!)

My Uncle had an F-150 just like this HIGH TRAIL!!! (need the white side decals to make it OFFICIAL)

Designing my first custom body!

After getting a 3D printer last year I committed to teaching myself how to use CAD to make my own custom parts. I started with making myself some one off trailers and have finally moved on to attempting a body. this is a cabover heavily inspired by a Ford CLT9000. it isn't a perfect replica (I really don't know what I'm doing) but it has been fun design practice! I keep adding more details to it, but I've finally started to scale it to be a proper size to test print and install on one of my TRX4M chassis. should be able to scale to any other micro crawler once completed. trying to keep it easily printable with flat surfaces on at least one side. let me know what you think!

How many 3D printer users?

How many of you have bought a printer and do you think it was worth it?

I'm considering getting a Bambu Lab A1. I like the idea of being able to print parts and bodies. The A1 is currently 260EUR. I figure I'd need to print at least a three or four bodies and parts to make the outlay feel worthwhile.

I also like the idea of being able to make parts and accessories for my son who loves construction vehicles and tractors.

Best brushless motor for 1/18

Rock Van v2 here. I’m upgrading to brushless and have set myself on the Hobbywing Mini24 ESC as I am already within the ecosystem and have the programming card.

However, not sure if I want to pair it to the quicrun or something else. I’ve seen the fat viper is highly recommended and works with the HW ESC.

What other options might be worth considering?

Starting our course

I just felt like sharing. My 7 year old son and I started building our course today for our 24th scale crawlers. I own a very small piece (about 50 ft x 50 ft) of very steep wooded land so this course will have a lot of loops and switchbacks. I'm thinking of making themes for each section (gold mine, etc.) It was super fun and it really shows how capable our crawler are. I'm super sore since I carried 5 pails of rock to this location but I'm so excited to get a good start and keep building it for the next few years. There is a giant rock the size of a car on the corner of my property. I cant wait to tie that in some day. My son has tons of great ideas!

Four Wheel Steering

My son only wanted one mod (I don’t count wheels) and that was four wheel steering. I think it’s sweet!

FCX24M servo replacement options if your stock one dies

My stock servo died, so I started digging into what actually fits the FCX24M.

What I found is the biggest issue is fitment more than the servo itself. A lot of the usual micro servo options look close, but they do not line up right with the FCX24M mount.

The cheapest is the DS Power DS-S003M with JST plug is the direct drop in. It is usually around $5 to $6 on AliExpress and seems to be about stock power.

Stock FMS servo is around $10.

RCAWD is around $20.

After that there are pricier upgrade paths if you want to spend more.

I ended up printing a custom mount for generic Emax servo which cost roughly $3-4 dollars to replace once a mount is printed.

I put the fitment details and the different options in a comment.

Venture 18 HPI hilux drive shaft problem?

Probably a total noob question, but I was installing a skid plate and injora stainless driveshafts on my truck today and lost ‘trail mode’ high speed. Cannot figure out what is wrong I took it apart checked the driveshaft clocking etc… still no trail mode. Crawl, reverse everything else worked fine. I’m stumped.
