I've never played Half-Life in my half-life (I'm almost 40)
Yo.
Never played Half-Life before, which feels kinda wild coming from a time when it was massive and everyone was playing it and bumming it. Anyways, finally got a copy and after recently spending time in PS5ville playing through RE9 and Fatal Frame 2 Remake, I'm back on the PS2 playing this game.
It's weird coming to a classic game with no real context. Not only did I never play Half-Life back in the day, I also have no idea like... what it's about. The story, etc. So it's very fresh to me. Reminds me of when I'd never listened to The Beatles before like five years ago when I was like "I'm gonna check out them Beatles...". Not only had I not listened to them (outside of hearing the ubiquitous tracks dotted about in life), I knew nothing about them, or the context of their albums, songs, etc. This is that, but for a long-revered game.
My initial take: Fuck, and these scientists say some funny shit.
Bonis Take: The save system for PS2 fuckinf sucks. I've played this opening section three times because there's a quick save in the menu, but then a like big save in the sub-menu you gotta do to REALLY save. Truly munted. Wish me luck.
PS2 Half-Life. Any good?
FFX on Ps2 version nostalgia
Just hooked up my PS2 today to relive my childhood from 23 years ago. Cool to see what I did as a kid without any internet or guides. Going to revisit Spira and check that Airship. Already played a Blitzball game and nice to see the Aurochs are still together. Still got it and 5-0’d the Ronso Fangs. Letty’s still the best in the league while Wakka and Datto are the top scorers. Gonna go battle some monsters in the Calm Land arena.
Edit: not sure why my pics got deleted 😞
I'm literally crying, I've gotten the best birthday present ever. [Heaven's Night⭐ lamp]
Crt Ps2 "nook"
I didn't want to be restrained to one place so I essentially set up a ps2 and various other devices on a utility cart lol along some of my favorite games like silent hill, finding nemo, and grand theft auto.
I set up an amp so I could connect earphones which is a major game changer for me. now I find myself playing older games more often than newer ones especially anywhere now in the house.
if anyone has more game recommendations especially horror. doesn't have to be PS2.
Martini Girl Artwork
I've been wanting to do an illustration of GTA Vice City for a long time, and I finally got around to it. I hope you like it! If you want to see more, please check my IG @ facupov. Open to comissions
Choose what game I’ll play
Hopefully you guys aren’t to mad I’m running the games off a HDD I found my dads old ps2 and I really didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on games and the laser doesn’t really seem the strongest sometimes. And I wish CRT TVs weren’t so damn expensive
Gh3 not loading on my ps2 slim
I think it’s just a guitar hero 3 issue because my other guitar hero and rock band all load and I have been able to play them
Top 10 PS2 Games that you think are "S" Tier (Not Necessarily Your Favorites!)
It's been awhile, and I think we need to see what the current sentiment is like lol. I'll start it off.
-DMC3 (It defined what an all-around solid character action game should be about. Bonus: unlocking an extra character didn't feel cheap like some other gaming experiences)
-FFX (One of the greatest JRPG experiences of all time)
-MGS3 (Stealth masterclass, especially on higher difficulties. The camouflage element really took the series to new heights. You can pull off crazy John Wick like action sequences).
-GTA San Andreas (The new RPG elements, weapons, characters, story, missions, continued to get better for the series)
-Silent Hill 2 (The best storyline in the series, stunning visuals and arguably the best game next to the original).
-God of War 2 (Another high quality character action that delivered in nearly every aspect, and it goes to show you that the PS2 had a few of the best in this particular genre)
-Kingdom Hearts 1 (It revolutionized the path toward modern action JRPGs. KH2 cut down the platforming aspects)
-Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant (Another near-perfect JRPG like FFX. Only gripe: most of the bosses were relatively easy compared to other JRPGs).
-Okami (A very unique zelda-like experience. Capcom's first original and successful attempt in this genre)
-Jak and Daxter Precursor Legacy (The PS2 equivalent of Mario 64- I thought it would be "mid" like Crash Bandicoot or something on the PS1, but boy was I wrong! It's a very solid world-building 3D platformer, no load times between areas, just an all around solid platformer and a fine effort for something in the early days of the PS2 console).
Honorable mentions: Resident Evil 4 (perfect 10/10 3rd person action game (not survivor, but that's no knock on it)- but since it originally came out for Game Cube and they have the best version of the game, I left it out). GTA Vice City. It's another top tier GTA experience. Less levels than GTA3, but better experience overall. MGS2- It's a fantastic MGS experience and don't find it surprising to see it in a lot of top 5 and top 10 lists. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time- Again, it was revolutionary in the 3D platforming genre, but this came out for multiple consoles, so I tried to stick with PS2 exclusives the best I could. Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. A top tier 3D platformer, most prefer it to Jak and Sly, it's one of the most important and funnest PS2 multiplayer games as well (online mode), since this console was lacking big time compared tot he XBOX.
Is the PS2 still playable in 2026?
After months of having no real motivation or excitement to play my PS5, I’ve been thinking about picking up a PS2 again and replaying the games I loved growing up. Last week I finally pulled the trigger and got a great deal on one from eBay and picked up a few classics I used to enjoy.
Now I’m wondering, is this actually something I’ll stick with, or is it just nostalgia that’ll wear off pretty quickly?
I’m sure a lot of it is rose-tinted memories but at the same time I’m hoping there’s still something genuinely playable and enjoyable there beyond just the novelty factor. I didn’t spend much, so it’s not a big deal if it doesn’t last but I’m curious what others think.
Do you still regularly play your PS2 in 2026? Does it hold up, or is it more of a once-in-a-while nostalgia hit?
Sealed PS2
Got a brand new sealed PS2 with some extras, anyone have an idea how much it would sell for and the best place to sell it?
Are these normal sounds for an SCPH-79001?
I just bought this console used, and I am unfamiliar with how it should sound while running. Are these sounds normal or something I need to be concerned about? Most of the clunky sounds seem to be during initial loading, and once I am in-game, I can only hear faint sounds when entering new maps.
Apologies for the extra sounds of me moving the controller and buttons
Starting a question of the day series! Question 1: describe your personal favorite ps2 game poorly
I will start!: an angry guy and his short best friend find themselves at odds with a tyrant, a disabled mob boss, and an old man.
Look my collection 😁
Marvel vs capcom 2, simpsons hit n run coming soon 🙏🏾
Why does my ps2 make this noise?
the weird thing is it plays the special features dvd that came with it fine, no problem, the discs seem to be exactly the same, so why does it do this with the film?
