"So Long, Astoria" by The Ataris has aged like fine wine

"So Long, Astoria" is an all time pop punk classic. The Ataris don't get enough praise for this album. It ranks right up there with other staples of the genre like Fall Out Boy's "Take This to Your Grave" or Blink 182's "Enema of the State."

This LP is damn near flawless. No skips. Even the most mid songs on here are better than anything some more well known bands in this genre have ever written.

There are MULTIPLE tracks on this record that still bring me to tears. "Takeoffs and Landings" hits me particularly hard because it reminds me of a mutually painful breakup with an old girlfriend who chose to return to Canada and continue her humanitarian work over our relationship. All the lyrics on this album are earnest, evocative, and come straight from the heart. All these songs dredge up real, raw, visceral emotions. Truly inspired songwriting.

I can't believe this band didn't blow up into a household name on the strength of this record. It's so sad that most people only know them for the cover song (which is fantastic, but probably only the fifth best song on this effort). The Ataris deserved so much more for delivering this masterpiece.

Every few years, songs from this record randomly start popping up in my head and get stuck there. I am then compelled to give it another listen. Every single time, I'm delighted to find out that it only gets better.

I'm not even a huge Ataris fan. I (regretfully) never kept track of their projects after this record, but this album will always have a place in my eternal rotation.

"So Long, Astoria" is timeless. The moment the opening riff from the titular track kicks off, I'm instantly transported back to those awkward middle school years. It's a bittersweet, emotional plunge into nostalgia that few albums force me to experience.

Best 4 album streak in your opinion

I think for me I’d have to pick Fall Out Boy Take This to your Grave to Folie is definitely an amazing streak also Transit :Keep This To Yourself to Joyride was unbroken and not really pop punk but the Used from Self Titled to Artwork ,incredibly solid and honorable mention to Underoath Changing of Times to Lost in The Sound of Separation is one of the best 4 album streaks

Thinking about Chad and sending all the love and good vibes I havec😢

I love Chad Gilbert as I’m sure we all do, and it breaks my heart to see him even more limited. But, he is finding the positives, still writing music, and will still be able to play nearby shows. Just wanted to share this get a good vibe train going.

Angels And Airwaves: We Dont Need To Whisper is a complete masterpiece, and the greatest record Tom Delonge has made since 2005 blink hiatus?

Back in 2003 blink-182 released the Self-titled record and suddenly they were fucking everywhere...Radio..Internet.. Television.. even video games. I remember hearing feeling this for the first time on Madden... Skip to just 2 years later 2005, I come across a article on MTV.com announcing that blink-182 was going on a "indefinite hiatus". As a 14 year old massive blink fan I was completely devastated. As well as slightly confused because I had never seen or heard the word "hiatus" ever before in my life. 😂

2006 Tom forms Angels And Airwaves and once I heard the opening riff on The Adventure I was hooked.

Streaming wasn't a thing back then and with no income to buy WDNTW. My buddy downloaded the record off of Limewire burned it to a blank CD, and snuck it in my homeroom desk. I open my desk one morning and there it fucking was. Shit felt like Christmas morning but 1000 times better because it was a total surprise. I went home and listened to it and it completely blew my mind. I was obsessed. You dont think of it at the time but its the last record with the classic legendary Tom Delonge vocals. Atom Willards drumming is incredible. Entire record is a no skip and has a cohesive tracklist that transports listeners into a different atmosphere. Never heard anything like it in 2006 and still haven't to this day.

I dont think its nostalgia when I say Self-titled record, WDNTW, and When Your Heart Stops Beating was a very special era for blink fans, and in my opinion the absolute peak of Tom and Mark's songwriting and composing careers. AVA has put alot of songs that are awesome but none of the following records ever came close to the brilliance of WDNTW. As for Blink I still think their last masterpiece was Self-titled...Neighborhoods was just okay when I l first bought the record, but as Ive gotten older Its grown on me. One More Time is my favorite record since Self-titled, but my biggest gripe with it and with alot of records made today is that it just feels like a collection of songs. I seem to gravitate towards records that possess a distinctive music identity.

Lost emo/pop punk band from 2003 I’m looking for

Hello!! I have been on the search for a band called “blame summer” for a very long time. I am very, very desperate to find them as I really would like to hear more songs by them and learn more about them, lol. They only have two songs publically available, that being “I’m sorry but I can’t forgive you” and ”You Know What I Miss Most”. I have already contacted atariwept, the person who originally uploaded the songs onto YouTube, but they have no information. I’m attempting to get in contact with someone else from their last fm page, but they have yet to respond. The only thing I can tell about them is they have existed since at least 2003, possibly even earlier. I have an mp3 of their song (I’m sorry but I can’t forgive you) along with a lot of other obscure random bands which is where it was originally found, but there is no information online about them. The following is a link to their last fm and the YouTube videos:

https://www.last.fm/music/blame+summer

I’m Sorry But I Can’t Forgive You: https://youtu.be/RohPShvFaiU?si=JWayiGc40o-_sXh1

You Know What I Miss Most: https://youtu.be/KRM7LWAhTTs?si=ctcVzkEgE5NCXZnd

the song titles I am aware of that have not been found are as follows

“19 Days”

“The Best Mistake I Ever Made”

“You’re True Blue Kate, True Blue”

”Got Your Letter”

”Suicidal Spider“

“A Mark, A Mile”

“Learning Not to Make a Sound”

”From Insult to Injury”

”To The Stars”

”Write It Down”

”Verona‘s Dead”

I have images of a music video for “From Insult to Injury“

They had at least one EP from 2003 called “Learning Not to Make a Sound”

They had some sort of affiliation with drive thru records, allegedly being featured on a dvd/cd compilation but I have not found any proof of that

There are links to a website archived from 2003, those being:

http://www.blamesummer.com/home.html
http://www.blamesummer.com/media.html
http://www.blamesummer.com/bios.html
http://www.blamesummer.com/shows.html

These links are only accessible through internet archive but provide a lot of information, though no songs appear to be archived. I have been emailing their affiliates, but they have not responded yet. Any help is good help, thank you!!

Does anyone recall a band from the late 90’s or early 00’s called Vanguard or The Vanguard?

Trying to find a band I used to listen to in middle school. I had a burned cd from a friend, can’t seem to find them on Spotify. Anyone remember these guys? A bunch of songs started with movie snippets (typical of the time)…

Once again I have been stood up for a show that I’m traveling for & I’ve spent too much money to cancel. Doing things alone is scary so if anyone around Baltimore wants to meet up at the arms length show on 4/28 I have an extra ticket! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Bandas de pop punk/skate punk actuales en España? (2026)

Buenas! Soy extranjero pero vivo en España ahora mismo, y estoy buscando bandas de pop punk/skate punk actuales (2026) sobre todo de España (o en español en general).

Me gustan mucho grupos como No Pressure, No Use for a Name, y también The Menzingers, Jeff Rosenstock, etc. Ahora mismo estoy escuchando a Biznaga (me encanta Bremen No Existe), LAPM, Union x Afan y Barney Gombo. ¿Qué otra bandas actuales recomendariais? Muchas gracias!

"Worlds Apart" and "Cluttered Hearts" by glimmers no longer available on Spotify

I was clicking through spotify this afternoon and saw that glimmers' first two EPs were no longer available, with the exception of the song "Don't Tell Me." So many great songs were on these EPs and some of their most popular ones were too, so this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. My only thought is that maybe the band has some sort of dispute with Common Ground Collective which released those two EPs. This isn't the first time glimmers has had a song removed from spotify either, as they removed their christmas song Wish List last year too. They also removed their music videos for all of their songs on the EP "Human Furnaces" from youtube last year as well.
