Was so nice to meet all the nerds that came down. Everyone said they had a great time and the quiz weren't too bad either so that's brilliant! So if you're reading this then thanks a lot from myself and the bar staff, who loved all of you! Hopefully see you all next month!
If you fancy coming sometime, the details are in the final picture. Next quiz is on MAY 12TH. I had walk-ins and feel free to do so but it's much better for me if you book a spot at onlycocknect@gmail.com (make sure you put cocknect, not connect as others did ha). Be great if you could make it down!
Final Table:
The Simple Sons
Gregory Gregory Peck Peck
=) Snakecharmers
Chance Would Be A Fine Thing
Free Party In Hackney Marshes
Scouting For Points
Weather Girls
Matthew McKeeve, Where Are You?
Pints & Darts
Cock Tavern Bar Staff :)
(The drinking ale and eating eggs bit on the poster is because the pub is know for its selection of cask ales and pickled eggs… You might remember a team called the ‘Taverners’ on the show, with one member being the fastest pickled egg eater in England… well that record was set at this pub ha. Oh and it's just been voted the best pub in East London too!)
Hope it's not bad form to post this, but think it could be right up the street of some (emphasis only on some!) people here.
I created this game a while back and in the last series of Only Connect I kept thinking “they’d probably enjoy my escape room game” whenever someone would mention they were a football fan (occasionally there would even be a clue very similar to something I had already used in the game). So rather than hoping to stumble across football fans who also like Only Connect, I thought it might be easier to try the reverse :)
As the first line suggests, the game is set up as an Escape Room, but the puzzles are a mix of football knowledge and lateral thinking. It could be a good thing to try with a group of friends one evening. Playing time is typically 2 – 3 hours, and the puzzles can be quite hard (but you can use hints).
For a better idea of how it works, you can see the guys from a football trivia podcast playing it live here (will obviously contain spoilers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eic8fQjDCXc&t=325s
This is an example screen:
I do also have some general knowledge ones in the works for anyone who loves the sound of it apart from the football bit…
If you are interested in having a copy to play just reply here or message me. Alternatively, you can find me - Twig (The Zero Door) - on Bluesky which has my contact email.
If you comment your answer, don't forget to say how many clues it took you. Answer is in the comments if you're impatient.
Topic Spoiler: >!It's to do with the moons of different planets!<
Clue: >!What's missing?!<
Answer: >!Moons of planets in the solar system, missing the first letter of their planet.!<
Simpler one this time: >!Self referential phobias (e.g. Logophobia is the fear of words)!<
:o
I think this one is pretty fiendish (but doable). Would love to hear your feedback…
Victoria or Wyna Liu - you know where to find me!
Answer: >!Vocaloid IDs and their associated foods!<
:)
I know it feels like cheating but also the only way to keep up! I won't be able to cope if I don't pause.
