Job in Sequim, should my wife and I move to Port Angeles, Sequim, or Port Townsend?

Hello! My wife and I (both early 30s) are moving to the area for a job in Sequim. We're coming from remote Alaska, and we like to do all things outdoors (rafting, kayaking, sailing, climbing, running, biking, hunting, fishing). My wife works in public health and will be looking for a job. We can and will be buying a house.

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on whether or not we should move to Sequim, PA, or Port Townsend. Online the commutes from any of these places seem fine, unless there's something I'm missing? We want to be close to the outdoor activities listed above, but also be near good schools and safe neighborhoods.

How much should job availability play into this? We figure if we're in Sequim and my wife gets a job anywhere from PA to Port Townsend, the commute wouldn't be that bad. But if we're in PA, then that kind of rules out jobs in PT.

Are we missing something about the commutes? What are the benefits of outdoor access in each place? Is PT or Sequim too far away from the mountains to be there every weekend? Just looking for some local opinions

I don’t know if you guys remember a little while ago when there was a hoarding situation that overwhelmed the Kitsap County animal shelter, and U/KickinCoyote was generous enough to offer beadwork for anyone who donated to help the animals.

I donated and let u/KickinCoyote know, and just said some general things that I enjoy so they could just have some idea of what to do creatively for the beading.

I received it today and I am smiling so hard. The sand dollar keychain, the heart connector, the lanyard that fades from the color of the sand to the waves to the ocean to the sunset.

It is absolutely beautiful and I couldn’t be happier!! Especially knowing the donation went to the animals and u/KickinCoyote was gracious enough to donate their time and supplies and skills to create something so beautiful that sums up all of my favorite things in life. Thank you for your heart, for sharing your skills, and for ultimately saving who knows how many animals lives with your post. 💕

Thank you so much!!!

I 64 M and my Wife 60F have been outdoors People all thru 35 years of Marriage loving Hiking Biking Surf Sports, and Paddling for many years.

All those Action sports leave us with a big appetite and thirst!

What are local options for Craft Breweries, or any remarkable Ethnic food places in Clallam County or a reasonable drive for special Meals?

We are Gourmet cooks thru years of practice and can pull off good family style meals in Indian , Japanese, a little Ethiopian, and Thai and Mexican food.

But of these varied Cuisines are there any Restaurants you would recommend?

If I found a Solid Craft Brewery With Hazy IPAs and some Fruity Sours, and some Ethiopian Food, or an Indian Chaat snack stop

I would be Over the Moon!

Please drop your favorite food & restaurant recommendations from the mountains to the coast. We’ll be in Olympic National Park for a week and happily driving for hours in every direction. Would love to know more about the best food spots to try!

Hello! My husband and I want to make the move to the PNW from Colorado. We are looking at Bellingham or Port Angeles, and I was hoping for some advice about which one/where might suit us better!

We are mid 30’s, go to bed early (give zero fucks about nightlife), don’t drink, are both really into the outdoors and love hiking trail running, mountaineering, etc. we are vegans but love to cook at home, so a lack of big restaurants isn’t a huge concern. We like to spend time at home and having a cozy place is important. We have 2 big dogs (professionally trained and well behaved) and love to camp with them. Both of us are progressive/liberal politically, and are both in healthcare. I’m a nurse and he is a PA. We are looking to rent and would like to spend ~3K or less on rent each month and are pretty minimalist with possessions so we’d ideally like a place that’s 500-1000 sq ft.

We looked at Seattle and although the huge amount of vegan food, culture, and convenience, but ultimately feel a smaller place with easier access to outdoor recreation would fit us better.

Thank you!!

I haven’t used Reddit for traveling, so I kind of forgot there was a whole forum here. Our trip is pretty set, but I’d love to hear any thoughts about things we may have missed or screwed up. Even if we’re held to it I always like to know if I screwed up. This is a combination visiting friends in Olympia and then traveling around the Olympic peninsula that we’ve never done.

I’m leaving out some details as I’m very paranoid about announcing I’m on vacation. This is happening in the next month or so.
We are an older couple, don’t mind some driving, obviously, but aren’t into true hiking, and we don’t care that much about the rainforest although it might be nice to see one. We like the outdoors, but with this isn’t an unplugged type of trip – we focused on towns that are close to nature rather than roughing it or staying inside the park itself.

– A few days in Olympia, the main reason for our trip to visit Friends. We’re set with the Olympia part. We’ve been there before.

- we then go to Sequim for about five days, to relax and enjoy a town that we think will be a good size for us. We will likely go inside the park at some point or maybe up to cape flattery? We don’t want to spend every day driving, but we’ll do some.
- we then go to Westport for about five days. We wanted a different town and I really wanted to have some part of the trip with the pool and that fit the Bill. We understand we’re only close to the most southern parts of the park, but we’re thinking maybe to hit up some beaches?

I realize this is not very detailed, but I just want to hear suggestions and thoughts. We’re skipping Seattle, but we will be in Burien for a couple of days at the end of the trip to be close to the airport.

We’re mostly interested in things that we wouldn’t know about from our basic Google searching, and any recommendations for meals that are not seafood. We will definitely have some seafood meals, but as I am allergic, we try not to focus on that.

I never care about whether something is touristy or not so I’m not saying don’t give me Tourist stuff. I do know about the Hoh forest for example, and wouldn’t be against it, but will probably skip that as we’re not early risers. I understand you have to get there pretty early to avoid the long lines.

Thanks for any help!
