My foster fail: Éowyn the blind bandit!

A few months ago, my sweet old boy Gucci had to be put to sleep because of lymphoma. In February, I took in a young, blind foster cat from the shelter I volunteer at and adopted Gucci from. She's independent, sassy and, despite the reputation orange cats have, seems to have no shortage of brain cells. She's even confident enough now to have blind zoomies around the house! One week ago, I officially foster-failed her. Thank you for coming to live with me, Éowyn. I'll be the best servant ever. 🧡😸

I present to you the cutest little couch thief, how do I put him in his bed now?

This is Oatmeal. Her owner moved away without her.

We contacted the number on her tag when she first showed up about two years ago, and he said he gave her away before he moved, but nobody ever bothered changing the tag or registering her chip. He just kept her shelter name, which was extremely unfitting and clunky.

Finally got her to the vet and she was the politest little lady about it. Clean bill of health and got all her shots. Now I just have to drive her across half the country to our new home. Wish me luck!

Oreo lounging in my bed made me really happy.

I’ve lived in my current apartment since December of 2022. Early 2023, Oreo had a home. Her collar had a tag with her name and home address on it. At some point between then and December 2025, Oreo didn’t have a home anymore. She became a “community cat.”

I’m putting that in quotes because even though everyone was feeding her, nobody was taking her to the vet or bringing her in when the weather was bad. The day I took her in was the first day of a horrendous rainstorm around Christmas. She was dripping wet, cold, and alone. I brought her in, dried her off, and turned on the heat in the house for a little while so she could warm up. When the rain let up a little I went to the address I remember being on her collar to tell them she was safe. They told me they’ve never had a cat. I posted on Ring, and someone reached out to tell me that Oreo is well-taken care of and it was okay to just leave her outside.

I thought, “If she’s being cared for, why does she have 2 different kinds of worms? Why is she so overweight? Why was she outside in the pouring rain all by herself?”

Oreo has been with me for about 4 or 5 months now. She’s worm-free and has lost a bit of weight since December. She’s the sweetest cat in the world (even if she beefs with her little brother sometimes). She likes to sleep in bed with me. She follows me everywhere I go in the house, even to the bathroom. Oreo is such a loving little kitty. I can’t imagine who could ever lose her and not look for her; or worse, just move and leave her behind.

She’s also very smart, but she doesn’t like puzzles. I tried giving her some treats in Newton’s Kong and she looked at me like, “Excuse me, why are my cookies in there? Please take them out.”

Oreo also has such a polite little mew. When she cries for me to let her outside, she sounds so sad. It breaks my heart but I always tell her that staying inside is keeping her safe. (I’m her mom now, that’s my job.)

I’ve given her the following silly nicknames: Double Stuff, La Bonita Vaquita, and The Double Stuff Oreo Princess.

I try to tell her I love her a lot, because I want her to know someone really cares about her. I just hope she understands.

Today I came home from a quick errand and found her napping like this in the same spot where I always sit in bed. It made me smile so I just wanted to share.

Showed up on the front porch 3 nights ago, what should I name her?

My wife and I got home from a night out and found this little one sitting on our porch in the dark, like she’d been waiting for us. The second she saw us, she came running right up. She was starving (and is still food crazy), but also incredibly sweet and playful. We think she’s somewhere around 7 weeks old. What would you name her?

This is Jamboree! We call him Jam Jam

He showed up one day, and he’s been here since. Yes that’s me in the red shirt. Initially he’d run when we’d come outside, then slowly I tried to pet him, and talked to him constantly. Well, that worked, and now he realizes we love him as family. Also, he keeps me company out here at night, he’s a blessing. Cannot tell this face “no”. We saw he wouldn’t leave after almost a week, and he was hungry.. so we fed him anyway. Even after a family tragic disaster, I’m not alone out here. Despite the trauma, he stayed!!

Now Jam Jam does helps with my mom’s job of protecting me 🥲❤️

I just saw my friend and went and said hello. She is definitely hanging out here probably in one of the apartments and she comes out and goes back in.

After over a year, he's Now My Cat.

A little before Hurricane Helene, this tabby showed up at my house, eating what I fed the outside (refuses to come in and destroyed the place when I brought him in) cat. Finally, after a vet visit for a chip scan and a clean bill of health, he's now an annoyed member of the family. Because his kitty siblings keep sniffing his butt and he didn't like that.

Starving. Neglected. Unloved. (The top half of his bowl is empty)

Poor boy is starving because the top half of his bowl is empty… and the food behind it is obviously inedible.

Rest in peace Panini

I’m not sure if any of you remember her, but Panini was my cat. I posted about her a lot here when I first adopted her and ran a donation drive for the vet/rescue that saved her life. I may run another in her honor for the same place, but I need time to grieve and accept her loss. Making this post hurts more knowing there are some of you who check in on her to this day.

She was the sweetest, funniest, gentlest, most empathetic cat I’ve ever met in my life. She always wanted to be on me, she woke me up every morning and slept on my hip, chest or right next to me every night. She played like a little speed demon but hated playing with other cats. She was a daddy’s girl 100%, she never wanted to leave my side. She had a smoker’s meow and was a fatty fat at heart even after she lost weight. She loved her Greenies and plain chicken, she would go after anything I dropped on the ground as if she weren’t fed three times a day. She was my heart, my soul, the last four years were the best of my entire life because I had the honor of spending them with her.

She was only 4 though. She was always so sickly and we’ve always had medical challenges. I took her for a normal vet visit on the 11th because she hadn’t been feeling/looking well, I had also brought her last month for a different issue. She ended up rapidly going downhill and I had to make a decision within an hour or two of us being there. I didn’t know I would lose her and I still don’t understand why. She was beloved by so many people and even helped other kitties too with donation drives. I’ll love and miss her every single day of my life until I can finally see her again, and that day can’t come soon enough. I’m devastated. She was my everything.
