Buying a cheap leaf and swapping out the battery for a 62kWh - am I stupid

I am thinking about buying a cheap Leaf with a failing battery - around 2,500 to 3,000 USD. The. Immediately swapping the battery pack out for a 62 kWh pack. My thoughts are that would give me a 200+ mile range EV for around 10,000, less if I swap out the battery myself. I am a mildly fare wrench. I have rebuilt engines, but I have never owned or worked on an EV.

Is this a stupid idea?

Bought this Leaf with 60k miles to save my truck from the every day work commute! It was listed for $12,800 and I was able to negotiate it down to $9k. Im stoked! I customized it a bit for fun and I’m really starting to love this car. I’ve driven my truck so much in the last year and was spending $400 a month on gas and wearing it down. This leaf has changed the game for me. The previous owner bought it new and never quick charged it so the battery life is still solid. Charging it at home with our solar and saving money on gas is the best feeling ever. Meanwhile my truck can rest and last many more years to come. Just wanted to share! Thanks Leaf!

I've tried several Carplay adapters, Carlinkit, Amzfeel, some cheap thing from Aliexpress. None of them seem to work consistently.

With these, I have tried

  • Changing delay to 5 s or 10 s
  • Changing to Background mode

The best I can do is get things to connect 80% of the time. Is this just how it is with the 2018 Leaf or do I have an especially buggy stereo?
