Any recommendations for where to car camp on return between Sydney and Newy?

Have a concert on Sunday night and just trying to plan ahead in case I catch myself doing micro-sleeps on the late drive home, so I'm looking for places that I can pull over to camp overnight. Got a rooftop tent so I'm just looking for somewhere I'm allowed to pull over and set up without being told to move on by the coppers.

Anyone have any good suggestions? Current thought is that driver reviver/boat ramp at Mooney Mooney point, but I half expect that to be chockers because of the long weekend

Does this mark the end of Declan’s political career?

After her loss in the LM election, do you think DC will leave politics and return to water pumping full time?

Anyone in Lake Mac / Newcastle area into similar stuff?

Hey everyone, 20M based in the Lake Mac / Newcastle area. I work from home, so I’ve found it a bit harder to naturally meet new people locally, so I thought I’d put this out there and see who’s around.

I’m into:

Reading (mostly classics and some non-fiction about society)

Music — especially Radiohead, alternative, and similar stuff

Debating and just talking through ideas in general

Shows / films (pretty open, I just enjoy good storytelling)

Lately I’ve also been trying to get out more on weekends — things like checking out art galleries, small exhibitions, or even going to plays.

I’m pretty easygoing and just looking to connect with a few people with similar interests.

Happy to chat online first (Discord or something like that) before meeting up in person so it feels more comfortable for everyone.

If any of that sounds similar, feel free to reach out 👍

Did you lose your sunnies at Adamstown Bowlo Playground today?

They’re in good condition and Le Specs brand. I assume you were distracted by your kid. Long shot I know.

If you could start any business in Newcastle, what would you open?

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about starting a business in Newcastle and wanted to get real opinions from locals before making a decision.

Curious to hear:

  1. What kind of businesses do you think Newcastle is missing right now?

  2. Are there any shops or services you wish existed (or were done better)?

  3. What do you think is overdone in the area?

  4. Any locations/suburbs you think are great (or terrible) for new businesses?

  5. If you’ve started a business here before, what’s one thing you wish you knew earlier?

Just trying to understand the market properly before jumping in.

Appreciate any thoughts — honest opinions welcome.

Cafe that does dippy eggs?

I’m looking for a cafe that does soft-boiled eggs with toast soldiers, better known as dippy eggs.

I found out Equium has them on their menu so I tried there yesterday and the eggs were about 30 seconds short of being hard-boiled. No chance of dipping anything in because there was nothing close to soft or runny in them.

Any suggestions? Nothing fancy, just two eggs in egg cups with toast and butter.

Affordable melanoma check?

I have a mole on my face that is suspicious but I can’t afford to see a skin specialist. Anyone got any leads on a more affordable option?

Helicopter??

Every morning about 630-640 a dark grey helicopter leaves Swansea airport. Doesn't ping on flightradar that I've seen.

Nice looking chopper. Anyone have any info on it

Waratah Station Tent setup

Has anyone seen the tent setup at Waratah station (on the mayfield side) next to the elevator. The woman there was waving a shovel at people and yelling at cars going past.

Wondering if anyone has reported this? Concerning as my children catch the train at Waratah.

Stolen bike

This bike was stolen from Bolton St today. It’s our second car and we use it a lot (daycare run especially, so my kid is very sad 😔). Would really appreciate it if you could keep an eye out. As my teary three year old said - “we need to get it back from the bad man”.

R/Newcastle population

Question for the mods I guess??

Population of this subreddit was growing quickly and rapidly rose to 85k, then suddenly dropped to 65k. Just wondering what happened? Was this bots? Cheers!

Rubbish drivers

Okay, what is the go with people queuing across busy intersections now? Witnessed it tonight across the Gully Line - one of the busiest intersections in Newcastle, bad traffic, made worse because idiots disregard a very basic road rule. That impedes emergency vehicles and at best, is just a dick move.

Any basketball teams looking for a player

Not sure this is the place to ask but just chucking it out there, any teams in the Newcastle social comps looking for a another male player? Played rep and represented school while growing up, currently 26 and have played up in div one in the Maitland comp last 6 years as I’m from there originally

Keen to play in Newcastle as I live around the corner from the stadium and would be much happier with the travel time lol, saw they have a comp on Thursday nights which would work well for me, happy to play division 2/3 as well!

Asked in here as I saw the long list of players names on the newy basketball website so I’m not sure how often that gets checked

Thanks in advance!

Help: Am I about to be stabbed over some palm fronds?

Long bit of context: I live on a small block in town. We’ve been here for a few years. When we moved in the 5 huge palm trees already existed.

These trees drop their ‘fronds’ - branches. Because the trees are on the fence line they either fall in our yard or the yard of the person behind us. They crush stuff when they come down. They’re a pain in the ass to deal with. You need a pruning saw to cut them up and put them in the green bin.

Our neighbour behind us does not like these falling in his yard. I don’t know them, but their kids come and ask to get their ball back when it comes over the fence. They’re nice enough. We try and be helpful.

So when one of these fronds fall in their side of the fence, one of the people from the house (I’m assuming it’s the dad) pushes the fronds back into our yard. Sometimes causing damage to the screening tiger grass along the back fence. I get it. They’re our trees and they’re hard to deal with.

Admittedly I haven’t addressed this with them. It’s just the way it’s been for the last few years. They throw them over, I deal with them. It’s fine.

Today I went out and noticed a frond that was halfway pushed over to our side of the fence. Normal. I grab it to put into our bin. But this time I notice there are a pair of scissors stabbed into the end of the thing. That hasn’t happened before.

Is this a passive aggressive threat? Should I be concerned? Report it to the cops? What do you think?

My instinct is to go and talk to them. I get it’s probably worth it either way. But does this read like I should be prepared to get raged at?
