Melbourne 09/05 help me find them!! 💖

I caught this lovely moment of a young couple in front of me in GA at the Melbourne show on Saturday 9 May. I meant to send it to them but got lost in the show!!
We were right towards the back, not far from Door 30 entry. I’d love to get these photos to them - it was such a beautiful exchange.

Is there no reggae scene in Melbourne?

Hey all, been back in Melbs for like 2 months now and can’t seem to get a lead on any reggae scene, group, people, anything. asked on a few subreddits a while ago and didn’t get anything. Is there no reggae scene in Melbourne/is it dying? Or is it just masterfully evading me?

What did everyone think of think of the concert?
I went with my mates and we enjoyed it. But one thing we noticed is that the bands that played were really part of the alternative scene. Mixed in with the venue, it felt like we were part of the underground music scene.
Good vibes overall the only thing is, we expect TISIM to go on for at least another hour. We felt like TISM didn’t play the all there good songs. We loved how the preformed and the production was really good.
Let’s us know what you thought of the whole night?
What did you like or didn’t like, what was a hit or a miss?
Are my mates and I tripping do you think TISM should have gone on longer?

P.S. did smoke and no one said anything, I just didn’t smoke inside the venue

Questions about the Forum

Hey, going here for the first time soon (first GA concert in fact) and I’ve got some silly questions, just trying to make it predictable for myself :)

Do we enter the foyer before doors opening time, or does the doors time refer to the outside doors of the building (basically, where do we wait)? Also if doors are at 7pm and I want to buy merch/get to the front, is arriving at ~6pm good or overkill?

Lastly I’d love to have water with me through the night, do they sell bottled/covered water in the foyer? Can’t bring my own obviously and won’t be accessing the bars once I’m in there so I’m trying to figure something out :P

Any advice on this venue/the GA experience would be super appreciated thank you!!

Was sleeping on Boggle until last night... similar recommendations?

Blew my mind at the Bergy. Had been meaning to see them for a while but kept missing them.

Any other Melb bands similar? I know Party Dozen are doing the heavy sax thing and love them too, they're just not from Melbs.

For context, I'm an event promoter and run classic hard trance events called TR!P, and I wanted to do something different for our 9th birthday that didn't involve a headliner. I had been seeing lots of face 2 face sets these days from some of the massive guys in trance like Armin / Maddox and heaps of the hard techno / schranz artists, but never classic hard trance & hardstyle.

So I decided to go for it and it, was a massive success. The setup itself was a bit of a nightmare. Not so much for the setup itself but making it a boiler room setup meant there was slight latency from main club speakers, which we were directly in the path of being positioned in the middle of the dance floor, to our headphones / monitors. Reason being, main sound going to main amps and mixing desk whereas headphones / monitors just coming straight from mixer to us.

We solved the issue by running the monitors straight into the main system which meant we could mix using one ear on headphone and the other on monitors. Still, wasn't easy.

Thought perhaps some of you in this sub might be interested in how it all went down.

The setup involved 4 x SL1200s and 2 x Xone 96 mixers. We basically had decks in channels 1 and 2, channel 3 a mute and channel four as the input from the other mixer coming from it's second master outs into the line in of channel four.

The really interesting and fun part is that you both actually have to communicate heaps and really work as a team because it's one persons job to mix into the tune the other guy is playing, whilst the other person has to do the mixing out on their own mixer. Took a little while to get our heads around it all, but once we got nicely oiled up it became so much fun and the night was a massive success. In fact one of the best we've had in the 9 years we've been around.

Crowd loved it. It was so interactive. I can't wait to do it again some time.

It's nice pushing yourself outside your comfort zone. It could have been a complete disaster as I'd never done anything like this before, but the setup in my head kinda made sense so I went with it and couldn't be happier.

I feel like right now as a small / medium sized event promoter you really have to be doing something different to be able to get the attention of ravers who would usually rather just do the massive festivals with 100+ DJs or large scale events / raves that bring in the biggest headliners in the world.

Since booking a string of class internationals and barely breaking even on some whilst making no where near enough to justify the work load on others, I decided I wasn't doing international or interstate headliners anymore.

I created a new night called Sinergy that's basically just myself doing 6+ hour open 2 close vinyl sets. My first event did ok with about 200 in there, but the vibes were off the charts. My second event 6 months after the first one did 450 tickets and sold out with a month to go.

Truly blew my mind. My theory is that people want to connect with the DJ, someone they know and trust will deliver exactly what it is they want. They want to feel like part of the experience. They don't really care if the person playing the tracks made the tracks.

People just want to feel like they are a part of something special, and forget the world for a few hours with like minded humans. That's it.

So if anyone's thinking of pushing boundaries, taking risks, tying something different, I say back yourself and go for it. Because doing the same thing everyone else is doing is not going to set you apart from the rest.

Psytrance Venues?

Does anyone know good clubs to explore the psytrance scene in Melbourne? I’m keen to explore new local artists and find a community that appreciates good music

I missed out on scoring any during presale, which pained me. I’ve been live on tixel for a while now but haven’t managed to claim anything as yet.

Looking for a single GA (The one time I went seated to anything I got too jealous). Always keen on the mosh even if it ruins me as a middle aged metal head.

Not some TikTok fan, been listening since Adrenaline and have seen them many times, so your ticket will go to a good home.

I (35m) am visiting Melbourne on a solo trip (from Sydney) for Deftones next weekend and I don’t have anything booked in Friday night.

Are there any good local spots or metal nights going on in the CBD that night?

There was a song I became aware of about 10 years ago by a Melbourne band but I can't remember who. The song, I'm fairly certain was called 'Lonely Girl' and it went 'she's just a lonely girl' does anyone know what I'm talking about and where I can find it?

Hi guys,
Need some help. I watching TISM tomorrow at PICA in Port Melbourne. I’ve never been the before but I want to know when I want to have a normal cigarette and a green cigarette, where do I go?
And can I smoke at the main stage to watch the acts preform?
Ive been to the forum and I smelt people smoking both types of cigarettes.
Also can anyone give me some idea of what is at PICA and is there anything to eat or drink?
What’s your experience being like at PICA?
Thanks

Anyone seeing kanekoayano at the Corner Hotel (Sat 8th May)?

I'm heading there solo and thought I'd ask here if anyone's keen to meet up before the show.

I'll suss out some dinner in the area (perhaps the venue itself) and get there in time for the opener, Public Figures, who sound great too!

Not sure how meetups work on here, but feel free to message if you're keen.

Anyone interested in forming a Coldplay tribute band in Melbourne / Sydney. My name is Mark, im 24 years old, singer & pianist with 30+ songs ready (mainly early Coldplay era, first 4 albums).

Looking for musicians to rehearse, build a solid setlist, and start playing live shows in pubs bars. If anyone is interested send me a message
