Best student dorm for exchange students?

I will be doing a semester exchange from Canada next fall as a 4th-year student at the University of Manchester, and I would like to know which dorm is most popular among other exchange students. I'm ideally looking for a good social residence. I heard the Fallowfield campus is very social, but it is mostly occupied by freshmen, so I'm not sure if that's the right campus to live on.

Hey guys! so i am an international student and I have been accepted (unconditional) to the university of manchester for their undergraduate course in computer science and mathematics with industrial experience. I just wanted to know a few things and pls any help by you all will be appreciated as i legit cannot find anyone (friends/family/mutuals) who has gone to Manchester ao i have no one to clear my doubts soo thanks in advance for replying 😭😭

  1. How do you think it is reputed among the UK unis, if we excluded oxbrige cause i wanna get into quant finance and the university reputation and name matters.

  2. Are they professors helpful and do they love what they do and are excited to teach and all ?

  3. The industrial experience, does it help with jobs in yhe future and also do students land up in good companies with this opportunit, moreover does the university help to get internships.

  4. Can you guys please tell me about the laundry system and also i am a gym freak soo are there gyms 😭😭😭

  5. How has been your experience (be very frank) if you are a computer science or mathematics srudent + lets say i complete my 120 credits for a year, can i take extra classes for something i am really interested in, for example if i complete all my credits can i just go and sit in a lecture of computer architecture (considering the halls are huge and a lot of students are there )

Hey everyone! I'm an international student who has recently received an offer letter from UoM for an MSc Aerospace Engineering degree. I was having a look at the modules for the course and noticed that the dissertation along with its project is said to take about 3 months. I have an older brother studying in Belgium who thinks that isn't enough time for a dissertation and that it may drag on into the 2nd year, which would mean paying tuition fees once again. Do students normally complete this degree within a year or is the workload too heavy for that? Would really appreciate advice from current or former students of the programme so that I can make a better choice.

Postgraduate accommodation: Square Gardens vs Ashburne Hall — is living close to campus worth it?

Hi everyone!

I’m an incoming international postgraduate student at the University of Manchester, and I’m trying to decide between living closer to campus or choosing Ashburne Hall.

Financially, Ashburne Hall seems like a good option because it includes breakfast and dinner. However, I also feel that living closer to campus might be better for studying and spending more time around the university.

The website says it takes around 20 minutes by bus from Ashburne Hall to campus, but I’m wondering what it is actually like in practice. I’ve seen some comments saying that because many students live in that area, buses can get very crowded, and sometimes students may have to wait a long time or might not be able to get on the first bus.

I’m currently deciding between:

  • Square Gardens: £226 per week, very close to campus
  • Ashburne Hall: £190 per week, including breakfast and dinner I would apply for a 41-week contract and then try to extend it for around 10 weeks.

For postgraduate students, would you recommend living close to campus, or is Ashburne Hall still a good choice despite the commute?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

To anyone reading this, please reply as I am really in a bad position. I am an international applicant. So I got into UoM for BSc Psychology. Long story short, I got a scholarship at a very good university, so I was firm on that as I wouldn't be able to afford Manchester without a scholarship. Yesterday, I got an email saying that I had been offered the scholarship.

This means I will be joining UoM.

I have no idea what to do. Believe me, I tried going through the website and information, and it is hard to get a step-by-step picture.

I know it's my ignorance that put me in this position, but I would be so grateful if students are willing to answer my questions.
