Found Cat

Found an intact male juvenile black/white cat. My roomates and I have him in our laundry room with food, water and a litter box. Very nice guy, not malnourished, was ok getting picked up.

Not posting pics so the proper owners can send me some to compare. Hit me up if you've lost a black and white male cat.

MVRCS Consulting with a Kinnon-owned company

A few weeks ago, Malden News Network asked MVRCS for some documents. If you know me, I made the Google Doc on everything MVRCS. So when I saw that MNN posted the PDF with reoccurring payments to "PECR Education" my heart sunk. I knew this was a company started by Neil Kinnon up at their family cabin built by his father in NH (8 days after his father passed away if that matters).

I know that Kinnon introduced himself as a business manager of MVRCS during the planning board meeting arguing about the Dover Amendment. So is he consulting himself? Is their information I'm missing that shows this isn't possibly embezzlement?

MNN's post if you have Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/187ebNFmGb/

Looking to trade Black Earth compost liners

I was given 2 rolls of 13 gallon liners when I was first set up but my household doesn’t produce that much. Given the 9 month shelf life, I can’t keep them until I eventually use them.

Is anyone willing to trade my 2 rolls for 2 rolls of the 4 gallon liners?

Community Preservation Survey

How should Malden prioritize funding for Parks & Open Space, Historical Preservation, and Affordable Housing projects? You can help the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) decide such things by filling out this survey

The CPC administers funds under the Community Preservation Act, and makes grants to community projects such as renovating parks, providing housing assistance to low income and elderly residents, and preserving historic structures like old firehouses.

This survey is an annual chance for the committee to hear from the community directly about what you want to see, it is very helpful when making difficult funding choices!

Power Lines

Hi folks,

The long and short of my question: Does anyone know the minimum height for power lines in the city? Google's all over the place.

Longer explanation: So I'm sure some of us remember way back to yesterday when there was a big power outage. Well, when they fixed it they lowered the lines in front of my driveway by a good bit (Eyeballing it, it's probably 9 feet or so over the sidewalk which, yikes). The big issue for me right now is that I have a dumpster parked in my driveway for some work I'm doing and the rental company can't actually remove the ding dang thing with the lines at the height they've been lowered to.

Rather than having them drag it out and ruin my driveway, I'm going to be calling NGrid after work and would appreciate knowing before I call whether they're even legally able to be this low. Any help would be a godsend, thanks.

T Times – a free public transit dashboard app that includes travel time

Good evening folks, I would like to share a small, free public transit dashboard app I've been working on. It displays nearby routes and incorporates travel time into the MBTA's prediction data.

Link: https://ttimes.boston/

You can tap on a headsign to see some more details, including the closest stop to walk to, and you can tap on an individual trip to see its stops and associated predictions.

The countdown timers the displays are (vehicle travel time - your travel time), i.e. the amount of time you would wait at the stop or station if you left your current location right now.

Let me know what you think!

What would you do as mayor? Whoever gets the most upvotes has to actually run.

Nobody is excited about these new candidates. And as great a guy as Gary is, now does seem like the time to move in another direction. So what would you do as mayor, or what priorities would you have?

Today's City Council Meeting

This one was interesting. Teamsters came out to speak to the city council upset about the layoffs. Then a volunteer firefighter also came out to speak pointing out that the Teamsters didn't take part whatsoever in the Yes! for Malden campaign, so y u complain.

(FYI, those that endorsed Yes! for Malden included firefighters, library workers, state teachers, Malden Education Association, labor council, Boston building trades, police union.)

Is there a creative scene in Malden that I’m just not finding?

I feel like I might be missing something… does Malden have any kind of maker/art/craft scene?

I’ve been thinking about getting involved with more hands on hobbies like pottery, stained glass, woodworking, etc., and I keep finding myself looking at places in Somerville, Lowell, and Salem for classes or studio space.

Would love to find something closer whether that’s a studio, classes, or even just people who like making things. I’m aware of occasional craft nights at places like Idle Hands, and have popped into Gallery@57 downtown to browse, and it got me wondering if there’s more happening locally that I’m just not aware of.

Alt Hair Stylist saying hello!

Hey friends! I’m an alternative/lgbtq+ and gender affirming hair stylist and I’m very excited to be back after a stint in NM. I’m operating out of Curl Up & Dye on Willow St, part of the Bryant Terrace apartment plaza. I know we have a huge alt/queer community out here so I want to make sure that if anyone is looking for a hairstylist for themselves or their teens I’m around. I won’t post my website here because that feels weird but I will leave you all with my IG name so you can find me if you want to: @the_tressnomancer

Spadafora Running for Mayor

From her Facebook:

I’m proud to announce that I am running for Mayor of Malden. On Friday, April 24th, the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance formally approved the organization of our committee, officially launching our campaign and taking the first step towards building a stronger, more connected city.

Malden is a strong and vibrant community, and I believe we have an opportunity to come together with leadership that prioritizes trust, accountability, and open communication. I’m stepping forward because I’ve seen how important it is for residents to feel informed, included, and confident in the decisions being made on their behalf. When communication breaks down, trust follows, and I believe we can and must do better.

Every resident deserves to understand how their tax dollars are being spent and how decisions are made at City Hall. These are not small details and in fact, the very foundation of good government. When people feel informed, included and heard, it strengthens our entire community and leads to better, more thoughtful decision making.

I’ve had the honor of serving Malden for the past eight years on the School Committee, representing Ward 3, including four years as Vice Chairwoman. During that time, I’ve chaired the Finance Committee, where I worked to promote responsible budgeting and long term planning. I’ve led two superintendent search committees during critical moments for our district, participated in successful contract negotiations with the Malden Education Association as well as SEIU Local 888 custodians, cafeteria workers, and clerical staff and brought in a new food service vendor that improved the quality of school lunches across the district.

These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how to bring people together, navigate complex challenges, and deliver results for our community. I’ve focused on fiscal responsibility, thoughtful policy adoption, and advancing equity in special education. That work has always been grounded in a simple belief. Every resident and every family deserves to feel supported, heard, and valued.

My campaign will focus on fiscal responsibility, identifying new and sustainable revenue opportunities, advocating for strong and reliable educational funding, and ensuring consistent, open communication with residents. I believe we can be both fiscally responsible and forward thinking, making smart investments while being transparent about how and why decisions are made. I am prepared to make the tough decisions when necessary and to lead Malden through challenging times with honesty and clarity.

My decision to enter public service was deeply personal. I first got involved in politics as a parent trying to be heard. As a mother of a child with autism, I experienced how important it is for every voice to be recognized and valued and how frustrating it can be when it is not. That experience continues to guide my work and fuels my commitment to making sure no family feels overlooked or left out of the conversation.

This campaign will be rooted in listening and engagement. We are going to meet residents where they are, knock on doors across every neighborhood, and hear directly from the people who make Malden what it is. I believe that by working together with openness, respect, and a shared sense of purpose, we can build a stronger connection between City Hall and our community and move Malden forward.

Flock Cameras in Malden

I noticed on deflock.org we have six flock cameras mapped. Could be more that aren’t listed. Do we know how much the city is paying for these? I’m really concerned after the video about their sales guy repeatedly accessing a kids gymnasium for (supposedly) demo purposes. If we’re already having budget issues I extra don’t want our tax dollars going to some weird company spying on everyone that’s out in public.

can we be friends

Hello hello! I recently moved to Malden and want to make some friends. I’m in my 20s, female, queer, and want friends who we can meal prep together, do crafts/art, and go on walks. Very chill, like on the weekends for a couple of hours. Preferably also could get to by the Orange line or by walking.

If you also want friends in the area and think we’d get along I’d love to connect! No idea if this Reddit channel is the place to go—if you have any other recs on how to make friends I’d love to hear them:)

Thanks, and hope you all have a great day
