New look at the Haunted Dark Ride Management Sim I'm building with GDevelop!

Hey everyone,

I'd love to share the latest gameplay for the game I'm currently building in GDevelop.

It's a pixel-art management sim where you design and operate your own haunted house dark ride. I've actually never created a game before, and am truly happy with how inituitive it is to use GDevelop and create a game that's entirely what I envisioned.

I'm currently working very hard to get a demo ready for Halloween season. If you like, you can find more info and screenshots on the Steam page:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4480080/Scream_Operator_Haunted_House_Manager/

I've had lovely conversations with fellow GDevelopers in the past regarding the lightning and mechanics of this game, and I've had more than a fair share of help too. If there's anything you'd like to discuss, or any feedback, please feel free to hit me up here, or on discord!

Call of Duty 4 running full native on macOS

In case you aren't aware. There have been a few CoD games that have shipped with debug symbols (.pdb files). They pretty much lay out all function names and files, which is intended to be used with debugging. One of these was Call of Duty 4.

Some people who are smarter than me took it upon themselves to reverse-engineer the multiplayer client + dedicated server of CoD4 called KisakCOD (You can find it here: https://github.com/SwagSoftware/KisakCOD )

I thought I'd try and port it to arm64 macOS (I always enjoyed cod4, I remember playing on a ton of modded servers). This has been worked on for the past month (so it's a bit outdated compared to the repo). The fast file load system had to be reworked since literally all of it used 32-bit pointers that I had to rewrite to use 64-bit. I'm using SDL3 for window and input, and I've rerouted most of the texture and sound calls through these. As such, most of the menu is functioning.

Technically can get "in-game", but nothing renders since I haven't gotten to that yet (I've been slacking a lot). There's also a ton of issues with the font (strings keep getting shifted so there's some bugs, and the Metal renderer is incomplete so some of the screens are also wonky)

Dedicated servers work fully and can load maps and initialize game scripts. At some point I do intend to help out with the developers of the repo, but I can't pull request any of this as its messy and I've had to gut and rewrite a ton of stuff (all windows stuff have been removed, this is only compilable for macOS, and theoretically linux)

I'll keep updating as I go but progress is really slow.

Steam Controller doesn't seem to work with Mac

I probably should have waited before ordering but Steam product page clearly said it works as long as you have Steam, including on Mac.

I came across a couple of posts detailing the same problem. The controller is detected by Steam running natively on Mac and the buttons seem to work on Steam UI. But it doesn't work in-game!

I have checked everything I could find so far. Input monitoring is enabled, accessibility toggle is enabled, Steam is updated, controller/puck is updated.

I managed to purchase one on the second day after launch and was so excited to finally get it after 12 days of wait. It looks like a great controller but right now it's just sitting on my desk as a paper weight.

Steam Controller PSA: Give Steam Input Monitoring/Accessibility Permissions

hiii!! i was utterly confused as well!! those having issues with their steam controllers, though, refer to title. everything works as expected on my m4 mac mini and macOS Sequoia. on screen keyboard, Steam Input, mouse input with trackpads, and controller detection in emulators all function without issue.

Buying decision

Hi, this is my first post on Reddit, and right now I’m in a very “delicate” situation. I own a Zenbook 14 with ultra 5 125h and 16gb ram, I hate the thing, Windows has become very slow and annoying. Now I’ve decided to get a Macbook Pro, I want to finally feel something premium for this kind of money. I’ve got a decision to make, I’ve found a Macbook Pro m4 max (32 gpu cores) with 36gb ram and 1tb storage for 2270£ brand new. I feel that this laptop is a bit overkill for me, but I would say for future (I know future proofing is not a thing with technology but still) would be more than enough let’s say 4-5 years. I’ve also found a Macbook Pro m5 with 16gb ram and 512gb storage for 1270£ (+85£ for the charger as Apple is not including one anymore). 16gb of ram is enough now but in a few years I feel that this would not be good enough.

Now the question is, should I spend the extra on the m4 max or just buy the m5 and not worry.

My use case: university work (browser, office), some light programming (just started learning), and some gaming from time to time (mainly Path of Exile 2 over CrossOver).

I’ve got a feeling that the base M5 won’t be enough for gaming (but I also own a gaming pc so that is kind of sorted when I’m home).

I tend to buy the m4 max as is so much powerful and feels like more “value”.

P.S. sorry for the long story 😁

Edit: I just want to know if the 1000£ difference is actually worth it (value/money)

bad PS5 recording quality on OBS using 2022 Macbook air

I'm currently working on a passion project where I need some footage of video games for b-roll. I bought an elgato capture card and downloaded obs and have been trying to follow tutorials so I can get the best quality of footage. The switch 2 footage that I got looks pretty alright but games on the PS5 look low quality. I'm using a 2022 Macbook air which I'm fully aware comes with it's downsides but its what I've got for college and probably the best I can get rn. I'm wondering if there are any setting that I can tweak or adjust that'll help the PS5 footage come out looking a little bit better? I'm like insanely new to all of this so I apologize in advance for my ignorance and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

Fortnite Soon !

Fortnite is now officially available on the App Store globally again. Huge moment honestly.

If this momentum keeps going, the next big step is probably proper MacOS support/optimization — so Mac gamers, buckle up 👀

Helldivers 2 performance drop as of patch 6.2.4 ?

Did anyone get performance drops after the most recent HD2 patch 6.2.4 as of 19th May 2026? I am down to 30-40 FPS regardless of setting (on M2 Pro, did comfortable 50+ before that).

Restricting Frame rate through Steam?

Just realized that at least for FF7 Rebirth; when I set the in game frame rate to 30, nothing happens. It still fluctuates as if I had not selected that option between 35-40.

Was wondering if there was an easy way to restrict the frame rate of a game when I boot it running D3DMetal through either the Steam portal on Mac or Crossover.

I've tried +fps_max 30, in the Steam properties; that didn't seem to do anything either.

RDR2 WhyEm DLC on M4 Pro MacBook Pro? (CrossOver + Steam)

Hey guys, I’m playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on an M4 Pro MacBook Pro 16” using CrossOver + Steam, and honestly it runs surprisingly well.

Now I really want to try the WhyEm DLC mod, but I couldn’t find any recent tutorials or gameplay videos for Apple Silicon Macs.

Could someone make a YouTube video showing:

  • how to install WhyEm DLC on Mac with CrossOver
  • whether it works with Steam version
  • performance/stability on M-series Macs

I think a lot of Mac gamers would appreciate it. Thanks!

Question

I’m interested in buying a laptop and I just had a couple questions. It’s mostly gonna be used for schoolwork, but I do wanna play steam on it as well.

My question is should I get the MacBook Pro M4 Pro with 512 GB and 24 GB of RAM.? for 1500 come to a charger as well. Also used 16 in screen

Or should I get the MacBook Pro M5 one terabyte memory 24 GB of RAM for 1600. This one like new inbox, 14 in screen

Both of them have regular screens not nano screens

getting it from Facebook marketplace both of them.

Any help would be appreciated. I don’t know anything about Apple. This would be my first laptop. I even thought about getting the new Neo one, but I was looking into the Pros model just in case I wanted to do gaming as well.

Why I chose a Macbook M4 Pro instead of PC to make a Steam game

After 5 years of game development on Windows, I switched to a MacBook Pro M4 Pro a year ago to see if it would make my dev life better. And it absolutely did.

The experience has been awesome. Builds are very fast, the laptop stays dead silent (and cool), and I can actually work unplugged for hours. I genuinely enjoy working on this little beast every day, it's such a pleasant experience compared to Windows laptops I used for years. I just wish Steam’s SDK and deployment tools had smoother macOS support out of the box, but perhaps my game will be one push more in the right direction and one day Steam will treat Mac and PC users equally.

Apple silicon Macs are so dang powerful, I wish more games got native versions. Cyberpunk 2077 shows perfectly what's possible when someone actually gives a native port some love. I have a feeling Apple will focus on games even more in coming years and perhaps release a gaming-focused portable handheld.

What's your experience using native Steam client on Mac? Do you even use it (or other launchers like GOG/Epic Games Launcher)?

The Dark Souls of Monster Taming

I have been working on this monster taming game since high school and I thought I would share it with you. As I grew up in a town where cockfights are common (called "Sabong"), I added my father's own fighter named "Labuyo". Both my father and Labuyo are now gone, but I can still be with them in the game. Labuyo is not that strong though, and he gets beaten by Tarhyak all the time. It would mean a lot to me if you could wishlist the game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4190860/Neuralnx/
