Recently, I completely switched my main laptop from Microsoft Windows to Pop!_OS (Linux). For the last week, I haven’t booted into Windows at all—zero logins, zero backups, basically zero activity.

Almost immediately after I stopped using Windows, I started getting bombarded with Windows Insider Program emails.

What’s interesting is the content of these emails. They’re specifically about things that often push power users away:

  • quality improvements
  • command-line upgrades
  • better update experience
  • performance/stability fixes
  • “help make Windows better”

(Screenshots attached)

The timing honestly made me curious.

Has anyone else experienced something similar right after moving to Linux?

Do companies like Microsoft actually track account/device activity closely enough to notice when users stop engaging and then trigger automated retention/engagement emails…

…or is this just one hell of a coincidence?
