Hi, I am planning to buy a kindle in the US and take it to India as a gift for someone. The user will have a Amazon India account with an Indian payment method. Will the kindle work in India?

I am aware that Amazon has discontinued selling the Kindle in India. That is why I am concerned that it may not work.

Any advice is appreciated, especially from someone who has been in a similar situation.

I would like to buy a kindle within in the budget of 2.5 to 3k and preferably kindle basic. It would be great if it’s a newer model like 8 and above. Price can be raised a bit, based on the kindle.

Couldn't find anywhere🥀 where can I find

I need to be able to pause audiobooks midway and return, and be able to resume from there. when i browsed i found SOX Media Player and KinAMP, does these two work like i need. which is the best? or is there others?

I already have a samsung tab s10fe+ where I download epubs and read it on lithium and during commute, i do the same on my phone.

Buying a kindle has been a childhood dream, but the price at which it's being sold(₹17k) seems crazy. I thought about buying a refurbished one but the emotional attachment of buying a new one, which has been a dream trumps that. Despite being a childhood dream, I don't want to spend that much money and regret it later on.

I'm seeing posts on how Amazon is coming down on people who jailbreak their kindles(which I very much intend to do because it seems you can't officially own a book in kindle, it's kind of leasing a book)

So should I buy a kindle or not?

Ps: I'm also seeing posts on xteink which is a hand sized e reader which seems to be cool used during commute. Any thoughts on that?

I have a friend who is a very avid reader. He always reads. But the thing is he doesn't have many books, nor he can afford many. Don't have library near him. Sometimes i send him some books. This time I've decided I'll gift him a kindle. Nothing fancy shiny, but a simple paperwhite with backlight.

My budget is 2k.

week or two ago, I was looking for Kindle cases for my 8th-gen basic. It was kinda painful to find one, and confusing, as many were for the Paperwhite model, and a bunch were mixed in. I saw some people's comments and posts here asking for a Kindle case, etc., as not too long ago, I was in the same boat as most. So I have made an Amazon public wishlist where you can view the curated list of cases for the Kindle 8th gen basic or Kindle 10th gen basic (2019 model).

Things to know before purchase(don't skip this):

1. kindle 8th gen basic(model-SY69JL) and 10th gen basic(2019 model-J9G29R) are same size or dimension, so no issue. tried and tested, fits perfectly, and is interchangeable with each other. To find the model no. Refer to the second image, it's probably the first thing on the left side bottom, on the back of the Kindle.
2. Automatic sleep-awake function on lid close and open will work only on the 10th gen basic model and not on the 8th gen basic because these cases are actually made for the 10th gen, so inside the front cover, there is a magnet that triggers the hall-effect sensor, which is used for that auto function. The placement of the sensor inside 8th gen basic is different than 10th gen basic, so of course that will not work (for that, you have to exclusively look for 8th gen cases, which are not available in India. Saw one but was priced at 2k with no reviews). But there is a workaround a person on Reddit has figured out, I will link that post too. This is different from the case magnet, which keeps the lid closed. Every case here, I think, comes with the case lid close magnet, not the same as the hall effect triggering one.
3. This is for BASIC Kindle 8th and 10th gen(2019 model) only, not PAPERWHITE Kindle, seen many people who are confused about those for some reason. paperwhite have total different dimensions from these basic ones.
4. Other than these 2 generation being the same dimensions and the case being interchangeable, I am not sure it will work with other Kindles except these two.
5. Check the review before buying. I have just created a specific list of these 2 models, so people don't have to look anywhere else, as I have tried that before; this is as good as it gets in terms of available ones in India online(not sure about offline markets or sellers).
6. I am not getting any commission; it is not an affiliate. Doing this just for the love of the game, and maybe future Kindle buyers can find the post helpful and get cases for their Kindle.
7. Don't accidentally purchase the 10th-gen Paperwhite one, not in the list, but available on Amazon with the same designs because it's by the same company.
8. Please check and confirm your address before purchasing, although my Amazon account is new and I have not added an address or personal details, but I don't know how the public wish list on Amazon works. If any changes are needed, tell me. Don't accidentally send it to me.

I currently have a Kindle Basic 7th Gen. It was a gift, so I’m a bit emotionally attached to it 😅

But I mostly read while travelling in bus and also at night, so I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a Kindle Paperwhite. I don’t want to buy a new one though — ₹16k feels too expensive .

I’m considering getting a second-hand Paperwhite for under ₹5k max.

Is it worth it to upgrade from the Basic 7th Gen? Especially for night reading and commuting?

Also, if anyone has leads for a good second-hand Kindle Paperwhite . (preferably under ₹5k),pls do tell
