As the popular saying goes: All roads lead to the Z900RS. Actually it might say SV650, but for me it's the 900RS. Whenever I get pissed at my current bikes, my mind goes to her.

Here's the conundrum. I have tested the RS 4 times last year, one of which was a full day of rental. The first time I rode her I was blown away. Smiles as wide as my ears for 30 minutes straight. The second time I started to notice flaws (was an early 2017 model), like the suspension and the twitchy throttle. The third time I started to get used to the i4 motor and it's grunt. The 4th was the rental day, and it was the cafe version, but without the cowl, but still lower bars. At that point, I was over it.

Since then, I went on a spree of poor purchase decisions. I now have two bikes in my garage that I cannot ride for longer than 1hr due to my bad back and perpetually sore (from other sports) wrists: Aprilia RS660 and Street Triple 765R. Both also have really stiff suspension for the super bumpy chip-seal roads we have here.

So needless to say, I might go for the 5th test-ride within the last 12 Months, and I might already do it today or tomorrow.

What I need to know, and what I cannot figure out in the 30 minutes they give us here:

  • At any point prior to 2026, has the twitchy throttle been fixed? Like, is 2024 less twitchy than 2017?
  • Has it been fixed in 2026 even?
  • Can the adjustable suspension give a somewhat comfy ride where it does not shake out my fillings when riding bumpy roads?
  • Can you really, like really push it to have fun? The alternative is an XSR900 (or MT09, or 790 Duke), but I don't think I'd ever turn around for it to admire it after a ride. It would not have me look at it from the cafe and be like "daaayum"

Generally, I want a bike that's comfortable enough to ride for 4-6 hrs without issue, but also gives me that "16 year old dummy on a SuperMoto" / hooligan kind of vibe when I want it too.

Thanks for the help! Any points you ll raise I will try to incorporate into the test ride.

I DID IT

I was looking at z900rs for more than 2 years now, finally pulled the trigger and got one. Caught myself staring at it for half an hour after getting it home.

Kawasaki Z900RS 2018 as first ever bike?

Working on my license at the moment. I LOVE the style of the z900rs, would it be suitable for a new rider? I'm 29 y/o and i'm nervous and i'll be mature enough and respect it, i don't wanna die.

It's for sale for 9.000 (euro) maybe i can get it a bit lower but not sure.

Below is the sale notice:

For sale: Kawasaki Z900RS from 06/2018 with 23,000 km. The color is metallic orange and it has a manual transmission. It features a 948cc engine producing 111 horsepower and runs on gasoline.

The bike is in excellent condition, with no damage whatsoever. The Bridgestone S22 tires have very few kilometers on them. It comes equipped with front and rear Öhlins suspension, a Buing windscreen, engine sliders, Barracuda mirrors, Kawasaki heated grips, and a center stand.

The service book is fully up to date. Inspection by a mechanic is welcome. The price is negotiable and offers are accepted.

Upgrading from a RE GT650, and boy is this a different animal. Somehow easier to ride! Aside from bar-end mirrors, where's a good place to start for mods?

broken arm, leg btreast, liver stent,... just because some twat came out recklessly, another guy had to stop immediately and catapulted me in oncoming traffic. no traction control or abs or my 30 years of experience could have saved me.

stay safe out there!

Coming from a Triumph tiger 660. That was the perfect bike for me, except I had a lot of wind noise (I'm very tall). Tried all, higher screen, short sport screen, even cut that down even more. Because of the fairing I still kept the excessive noise.

Anyway, sold the tiger. Looking for a replacement, and basically doubting between z900rs or an Africa twin. Already test rode the kawasaki, love how it rides and it looks, but I have some questions.

I'm pretty much always riding with my (tiny) gf as pillion. I wanna do some nice day trips, and few times a year some proper 1000km+ trips. I'm looking for something that's fun to drive, and comfortable on longer stretches. With the naked, I know highway speeds get tiring, but the noise will be alright because of the clean airflow. I know luggage is limited, I was eyeing the SW legend bags and pack very Spartan.

My other option would be the Africa twin. I know for touring it's the way better option, better luggage, pillion comfort etc. But it's also a huge bike, more expensive. I think the kawasaki is probably a more thrilling drive, and I prefer the looks (although I love the AT too).

Help me decide! Does it tour well with 2, or am I trying to stretch it too much?

Found a NOS 2024 z900rs SE at a local dealer. Given that 2026 is already out, I may consider the 2024 only if there's a good deal. But not sure how much should I offer the dealer (out-the-door, everything sans the taxes). What do you think?

Among the 2026 updates, only two things I really liked:

- supposedly smoother throttle

- I had a 2018 z900rs and found the throttle very snatchy at low-speed

- heated grips: great for high mountain passes in the summer, no need to change to thick gloves

Cruise control?

Hey friends I have been looking at used z900rs bikes for weeks waiting for the right deal. Then I realized the new 2026 model has cruise control.

My q is, anyone really itching for cruise control on this machine? I swore I'd never buy another bike without, but this doesn't seem like a long range touring bike

I added electronic cruise to my 2012 Multistrada, it was expensive but worth it, it was a touring bike.

But now I'm getting FOMO and I hate buying new.

The Yoshi fender eliminator kit had been on my Christmas wish list for a few years. Well, this last year I looked online and saw it priced for $2! No way they would actually complete the order and would I receive one in the mail, so I went ahead and tried. Sure enough, $10 shipped, my Yoshimura boxes arrived! I think they redesigned it, with taller standoffs, and somebody at the 'zilla fat-fingered the pricing. Anyway, my wife also bought one! So now I've got a pair and a spare.. I see now that kit is priced at $378!

Another Fabulous Day On The Machine

Spent most of the day riding with stops to walk around looking at the views and smelling the scents. 217 mile day. Temperatures ranged from 54 to 73. Went over one 4061' pass. About 9000' total elevation change. Even with over 82K on the clock still handles the sharp turn mountain descents with aplomb.
