St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach may close due to the Medicaid cuts in Trump's Big Beautiful Bill

Eighty-three hospitals in California are among 446 across 44 states and Washington, D.C., facing a heightened risk of closing, cutting services or laying off workers due to federal medicaid funding cuts, according to a new report.

These 446 at-risk hospitals collectively have 68,986 beds and served approximately 6.6 million patients in 2024. They employ approximately 275,458 direct patient care workers (this does not include non-medical workers, such as administrative staff).

Using census data to identify community demographics for each hospital,[5] We found that the communities served by these at-risk hospitals have a larger share of Black and Hispanic residents, as well as people living below the poverty line, than other hospitals. At-risk hospitals served communities that were 20% Hispanic and 13% Black, on average. For all other hospitals, the communities served were 13% Hispanic and 9% Black.

At-risk hospitals’ service areas also have a larger share of people living below the poverty line (16%) compared to other hospitals (13%). Nearly 20% of the at-risk hospitals (85) serve high-poverty areas.[6]

In past years, how crowded or chaotic was The Ramble? Considering driving in

Longtime Spoon fan considering heading to Healdsburg for The Ramble on June 6. Best option for me is driving in, maybe day of, though that seems potentially challenging. I'd be going for the music, not the wine. Anyone in a similar position enjoyed the festival in past years? Anyone caution against the parking situation or crowds? Worried about the hassle and heat, not the cost. Thanks!

Healdsburg Winery Events This Weekend (April 17-19)

With the arrival of the spring / summer event season, I'm rolling out a side project I've been working on - https://healdsburg.me - a quick way to see what events are on around town, and browse wineries by amenities (like picnicking and outside food). Feedback welcome (Note my personal pick is the Bella party!)

Sonoma Recs - hotel/wineries

Hi! I’ve been to Napa three times. I’ve stayed in Napa twice and Yountville once. We just figured it would be nice to try another area.

We were thinking Sonoma but after doing a little research today I’m second guessing if I should find accommodations in Sonoma or somewhere else like Healdsburg? I found a few hotels near the square but is that a good location?

We are red wine drinkers and that will be the focus of the trip so we will be looking to do wine tastings. We’d like to keep the room costs to no more than $500/night. We’d like to go in late August or November. Although we’d be open to September. Any recommendations for accommodations? I’m also always open to winery recommendations.

Healdsburg having Horn Barbecue (thoughts?)

With the latest news of restaurants closing in Lafayette and Elk Grove and employees filing labor disputes, what are your thoughts about the Parish Cafe hosting them in Healdsburg, CA?

Late night transportation

Hi! I’m getting married in Healdsburg in September and I’m super excited! We’re planning on having our afterparty at a bar near the Plaza and will have a shuttle to get guests there, but I’m worried that when it’s time to go home around 1-2am there won’t be Ubers available. Does anyone have any insight on this, or any advice or tips to get everyone home safe?

Thank you!!

White wine recommendations

My husband and I are heading up to Healdsburg in a few weeks for a quick trip. I fell in love with Healdsburg some years ago and am looking forward to showing him how amazing the area is. However, since I've last been up there, red wine now gives me bad migraines. I was hoping someone could advise me on some wineries and tasting rooms that have good white wines (I tend to prefer sauvignon blancs). If someone could please give me any guidance or recs, I would be so grateful!

Nowruz at Baci

Does anyone have any experience with the annual Nowruz dinner at Baci? I've heard good things about the food there in general, and I love Persian food. However, it's pretty pricey and would cover our eating out budget for the rest of the month and then some, so I am hesitant to have a first try at a place be such a big ticket (for us) dinner.

Weekend Trip

Heading to Healdsburg soon for a weekend trip (Fri - Sun) with my GF for our anniversary and am looking for some (relatively inexpensive) recommendations. I know it’s an expensive town but am hoping to make it decently affordable. We have lodging booked in the north part of town, pretty close together Montage.

  1. I’m looking at booking a massage for my GF and am leaning towards the spa at hotel Healdsburg. Any opposition? Montage looks awesome but very pricey

  2. I’d like to do two wine tastings on Saturday but can’t really decide and am overwhelmed with options. Was thinking one out of town, so we can get some views, and one in town? Or two out of town if they’re pretty close together. Was also possibly thinking of a food/wine pairing for lunch. Any winery recommendations for this plan? Or recommendations for a not super expensive pairing?

  3. restaurant recommendation for a nice, not super expensive meal? Planning on eating at Lo and Behold on Friday night but would like a bit nicer of a place for Saturday night.

Thanks! Also open to other itinerary suggestions if anyone else has better recommendations.

Where do single people hang out?

Seems like a sleepy town. Are there any young/single people? Where is the spot for those looking to have fun?
