Some real-world photos and specs started appearing recently, and it looks like GPD is going all-in on next-gen external GPU connectivity.

From the info currently circulating:

• MCIO 8i (PCIe 4.0 x8)
• USB4 v2 / Thunderbolt 5 support
• Built-in 800W PSU
• Support for desktop GPUs
• Extra ports + SSD expansion

What interests me most is the MCIO connection. If the bandwidth numbers hold up, this could be a huge step up from typical OCuLink eGPU setups for handhelds and mini PCs.

Feels like GPD is pushing toward a “single device ecosystem”:
handheld for travel → dock at home → full desktop GPU setup.

Still early obviously since it hasn’t officially launched yet, but the hardware direction looks really promising.

Curious what everyone thinks about MCIO replacing OCuLink in future handheld setups.

The upcoming GPD BOX honestly looks more interesting to me than a lot of the recent “AI mini PCs” we’ve been seeing.

What stood out:

• Ryzen AI Max+ 395
• Radeon 8060S iGPU
• up to 128GB LPDDR5X
• USB4 + OCuLink/MCIO ecosystem support
• actually compact enough to throw into a backpack

The interesting part is the 8060S iGPU performance. On paper this thing is getting dangerously close to lower-end dedicated desktop GPUs while using way less space and power. ()

Feels like we’re getting to the point where mini PCs are no longer just “office boxes.”
This thing looks more like:
small gaming PC + emulation machine + local AI box + portable workstation all combined.

And if you already use GPD handhelds, the whole ecosystem angle with the upcoming G2 dock makes even more sense now.

Still waiting for real benchmarks obviously, but this is probably one of the first mini PCs in a while that actually made me curious again instead of feeling like another NUC clone.
