My grandmother (left) and her sisters-in-law Annie and Peg, 1930s.
Does anyone recognize where this is? I'm guessing Good Harbor Beach,.
My grandmother was born and raised in Gloucester, and worked as the secretary at Gloucester High. Annie was from Cape Ann, too. Pigeon Cove in Rockport. She worked at Brown's Dept store. Peg was from Arkansas, by way of Oklahoma and married my uncle "Cappy," a star baseball player at Gloucester High. Their brother Joe ran the Railroad Ave Market. We have pretty deep roots in that town. And we love it
Similar atmospheres to Cape Ann's Brewery
As the title says. After all these years I'm still heartbroken about that place closing it's doors. It had the best wooden, rustic, nautical, dimly lit atmosphere, especially for it's location on the waterfront. Was wondering if there were any other places with a similar interior and/or location? The Thirsty Whale in Newburyport is the other one that comes to mind with a similar atmosphere. Thanks!
Ubers in Jan
Hi there! We are getting married in January at Hammond Castle and planning on staying in Gloucester and are wondering about uber activity in the area during winter. It will be 1/2/27 hoping you guys have some insights!
Let me paint you a picture. It’s 7:30am, moderate traffic, you just got off the rotary and you’re going up the hill about to go over the bridge. All the cars around you are just starting to speed up and you’re in the left lane going 70. Three cars blow right by you in the right lane. They’re weaving their way through traffic and manage to get all of two cars in front of you. At that point traffic over the bridge is so congested they can’t weave around to get any further up. Like congrats you’re 30 feet further down the highway. Was it worth risking everyone’s lives just to get to work in the morning?
This happens to me just about everyday. By the time I’m over the bridge I’m going 80 and people are still trying to get around me.
I get it when someone’s doing 65 or even 70 in the left lane. If you like going 80 that can be annoying. If they’re going way too slow and you’ve got a good opening, by all means go for it. But the speed limits 55 we’re all already going way over the limit. Why would you even want to get up to 90 just to get around one or two cars before you go over the bridge.? There’s literally a hill right after where you can accelerate way more easily.
Where TF do y’all work that you are that eager to get there as fast as possible first thing in the morning. Can I have an application??? By the look of it you all must work at the Bj and free beer factory.
I can’t imagine it’s just the snowbirds but If you wanna drive like you’re in Florida then sell your house and stay down there. Housing cost too much in Gloucester anyways we don’t need ya.
