Photos of my 2014 86
After seeing all the joke posts following that initial complaint, here some return to normalcy. Some pictures of my MY2014, photoshoot back in 2019.
Being the original owner, I made these changes over the years and tried to stick to OEM and OEM+ parts. Lots of fun customizing this little car. Cheers!
Highlights of changes I made over the years:
- TRD Parts: Spoiler, Exhaust, Air Intake, Brake Pads, Push Start Button, Shift Knob, Door Stabilizers, Lowering Springs
- OEM Toyota & Subaru: Alcantara Gauge Cluster Cover, Alcantara RedArm Rests, Red Door Handles, Trunk Mat, Alcantara 86 Dash Panel, 2017+ Taillights
- Carbon Fibre: Seibon Carbon Rear Diffuser, RexSpeed Carbon Door trim
- Wheels: RAYS 57FXX 18 x 8.5 F & 18 x 9.0 R
Center Tray Retrofit
First post here. Figured I’d redeem myself after getting in trouble for the horse and carriage buggy photo 😂
I’ve been frustrated with the touch buttons on the Android head unit. Specifically, the tiny touch responsive volume buttons and prev/next buttons on the Apple CarPlay Home Screen. At first, I bought a cheap universal Bluetooth steering wheel control, dremel’d out all unnecessary plastics to slim it down, but it didn’t work for me. Poor industrial design, volume knob component was actually a tiny plastic flipper. Gave up on this project for a couple of days.
I had just bought an expensive macro keyboard for work, Creator Macro 2 Pro. Figured I’d research to see if somebody has hacked macro keyboard for Android head units and sure enough someone did for a Honda. Bought the smallest macro keyboard I could find on Amazon that had software configurations to control multimedia applications. Programmed three buttons and volume knob, plugged it into the USB adapter and it worked. Zero issues, input is very responsive (instant). I cut out of a rectangular hole on the bottom side of the tray and used a right-angle USB-C cable. Wedged it into the tray perfectly without having to secure it with any glue, tape or fasteners.
Planning on cutting more at the bottom side of the tray out and plastic weld some support so that the controller can sit at an angle to help with the accidental touches. Would have loved to put the macro keyboard in the middle where the heated seat buttons would go, but I currently have manual switches therefore the air suspension.
FYI, the knob and blue light is the bass control for my subwoofer amp. When I took it out of the metal casing, I discovered that the control board was a perfect fit inside the USB/AUX component. The last 2 images, I’ve torn apart the car so many times within the 9 months that I’ve had the car, but this time when I was installing them head unit controller, I found a custom FR-S diecast that matches the car perfect. I guess the previous owner lost it back there behind the center tray and forgot about it.
As a Unimog owner I'm welmed with this sub!
I joined this sub when I bought my brz to learn about how to maintain it from more knowledge owners, and view other owners builds maybe share some memes about how slow our cars are. and all I've experience thus far is rod knocking motors and door dings.
it's like none of you have ever experienced a slow vehicle before, being passed hundreds of times per minute and blocking traffic. and how do you expect to turn your 40 inch mud tires will all that negative camber and caster? do you even have ground clearance???
As an Integrale owner I stay in this sub
I don't know why are we doing this but I love it, just like I love my GT86.
Has anyone used the cx racing T76 turbo kit for the brz LS swap? I’ve got a sikky swap kit in mine and I’m trying to find out if the cx racing headers clear and if the turbo kit has the same issues as the 240sx swap kit with cooking the plug wires. Pic of my car for attention
As italian who doesn't understand anything of your conversations in a foreign language, in done with this sub
Just added a few mods to the 86.
Finally made my 86 my look like my own and not like every other. I did rays 57CR gram lights. 18x9.5 +38. With some Nankang CRS 255/35 semi slicks. And a Tomie catless UEL headers. It already came with the Valenti tail lights and the Invidia q300 cat back exhaust.
Thinking of doing a track day at Mallala in South Australia. Does anyone have any advice on the track and my car. It’s my first ever track day.
As a horse and carriage buggy owner, I am done with this sub.
Finally got around to fixing my dash
3d printed some L brackets that pull the dash back in place! Been looking at the foam for 5 years!
As the brother of a miata owner I think I will stay in this sub.
stinky stinky little car, icky no good.
Driver side window is squeaking when window is rolled up all the way and you hit the window roll up button
The squeaking noise is coming from inside the door panel. Has anyone had this problem or know the fix. It's not the door seals I think it's the window motor.
Rust in trunk gutter channel
How bad is this? Paint was bubbling and just peeled it off today. It seems that from the top is pretty localized but from the bottom looks pretty bad. I’m planning to take the tail lights off and try and buff everything off and try to kill the rust and seal and paint. Or should I take this to the professionals?
