ChipDrop Fail

Signed up for ChipDrop last week and put in my request “hardwood logs only, no chips”. Much to my surprise, I got a delivery notification the next day! When I got home, my happiness waned quickly as I realize I now have a full pile of chips that I didn’t ask for.

I called the tree company that delivered it and they admitted to their mistake and quickly sent two guys back to help. Luckily I have room on this side of my property and it was very close to the hill that I pile brush / leaves on anyways. Free compost I guess?

The three of us moved the whole pile by hand in under 2hr.

New to my wood stove & firewood. Built these shed after a few trees were cut down that were threatening the house

I recently moved into a house with a wood stove. I've never really used one before, and frankly, I'm a bit nervous about it. I've already had the chimney professionally cleaned, but a roaring fire inside my house still makes me a little uneasy. I'll learn and get comfortable with it eventually. After a recent storm, a maple tree fell through my fence. I had the rest of that tree removed, along with two other maples and a large hickory tree that were threatening the house. I decided to split it myself and build a proper wood shed. The shed's plans were found on an EPA website (I made a few modifications). All the splitting was done with a 5-ton electric splitter from Harbor Freight. That thing is a beast. Anyway, I rarely build stuff, and I was proud of how this turned out. I figured you all might enjoy seeing it as well.

ID request, upstate NY

Looking for ID so I could season properly, also for whether I should prioritize scavenging more of it.

Yet another wood ID request

Friend had a tree she wanted removed, but didn’t know what kind. I cut it down and hauled it away. Was about a hundred years old in central New Hampshire.

No floor, no walls, all roof

No floor, no walls, all roof

Just finished this, pretty happy with how it came out. Built the structure around an existing wood stack. 4x4 posts set in the ground with 1/2" pt plywood for the roof. Adding the wings on the ends really made it rock solid. I stack 2 splits deep on top of pallets and scraps. I think it fits 3+ cords when full.

7 sheets of plywood $300, 8 4x4 $120, 18 2x4 $100, screws $50. So about $570 altogether. I"ll probably coat the roof with some stain or something once it dries out a bit. And I've also been happy with Harbor Freight 20 ton splitter after running 5 cords through it.

Wood id

This wood ID has been bothering me. I have been thinking elm because it's stringy and hard to split. However most elm I see isnt this sticky and doesnt have these interlocking cell fibers to this degree. Do you think it's elm? Location: Dutchess County NY. Downed tree

Took some wood from a friend. Found holes.

Apparently it's been outside for a couple years.

Are a bunch of wood boring beetles going to walk out of my wood pile and come eat my house?

Thanks. Sorry if this is not the right place for this light wood gore.
