What a Voyage! Star Trek became reality :)

Now I just need to find 7 of 9 and get her on my crew ;)

How far out do you have to go to start discovering unexplored systems?

I'm bored, duh, and I'm basically brand new to exploring, I haven't unlocked any substantial engineering yet but I jumped the gun and got an asp explorer with around 30ish LY of jump range which yeah is fairly little considering I did originally want to get to beagle point, but I wanna leave that till later.

TLDR, I feel like there's some fun in seeing something no one else has seen before (how selfish, I know), so I want to try to find new stuff, hopefully find some cool stuff along the way too. But I have no idea how far I really have to go out, and if it's something too high I'd want to do engineering first so, thoughts?

P.S, kind of alreasy overloaded but, are the exploration ships on PTN any good? or is there better stuff I should look for? Oh also, I don't have Oddysey yet, so no mandy

Stunning setting for my 1st Guardian Ruins!

Visited my first Guardians Ruins site at the Skaudai Nebula near the Colonia Highway earlier this month.

Don't know about the other sites but this one had a helluva view.

You CAN SURF Sagittarius A* and its Glorious! If you're with DW3 and in the area. Try this! :)

Since I figured out that it's possible to surf stars, whenever they are big enough and have enough gravity to stop a ship at full SCO overdrive velocity, I've been trying this on many big stars throughout my travels. Being back with DW3 around Sagittarius A* finally gave me the chance to try this with Sag A* and not only does it absolutely work. This as absolutely one of the most spectaculair things you can do in VR Elite for sure. So if you're in the DW3 fleet or close. I highly advise giving it a try :)

For Sag A* the sweet spot seems to be between 7000 and 5000 Ls. So just full throttle SCO overdrive at her, keep full throttle locked at all times, and only drop SCO overdrive as you get just within 7000Ls and keep pointing dead at Sag A*. Her gravity will slow you down. Then you just have to find the exact right angle to keep a fast steady orbit. No matter what you do, eventually she will pull you all the way in S.o once you come almost to a standstill (even while at full throttle) activate overdrive again to blast out of there.

Source 2 is a fuel star and large enough to surf also, so they make for the perfect star surfing binary system actually. Fill up again at Source 2, and your ready to go again :)

Surfs up cmndrs ;)

Questions for a new explorer

Hey all, I've been dabbling in a bit of everything the last few months and I'm looking into exploration accompanied by exobio when the opportunity may arise.

A few questions... Scanning the nav beacon seems like a quick, easy, cheesy way of registering a system, no? Is there benefit to still traveling to the individual planets in that system?

Also, I see little blips of nebula or distant star clusters while within a system sometimes. Are these reachable or they're just backdrop?

When people are talking about long distance treks, do they just mean jumping from system to system or are people actually super cruising beyond charted areas? (if that makes sense?)

Thanks in advance!

So I’m getting ready for my first run into the black.
Going a long, roundabout route, first heading far to the “west” before heading to SagA and colonia. Then head up towards Beagle point.
I will be using third party tools like ED Discovery and EDMC.
I know some of these tools share some data with databases.
My question might be a bit paranoid but if I find a new “Earth-like”, will it be listed by one of these apps somewhere before I have a chance to sell that data?
The credit bonus is cool but I would like to be listed as “first discovered” for as many as possible.
Hate to lose out on that if these app disclose these finds before I sell the data since it’ll be long stretches between visits to stations to sell my data.

Questions concerning my first long range exploration and bioscience mission.

O7 Commanders,

I'm really new to Elite, starting in HIP 97950 I was able to gather a lot of money from bioscience to buy a Mandalay and made a first short exploring trip out of the bubble, (Lysoorb PM-C D6). With some lucky first footfalls I was able to afford a Caspian Explorer. Now with the Evacuation CG in Lhou Mans, I'm currently getting a lot of engineering materials to improve FSD and I'm trying to get a Guardian FSD Booster to prepare for a long ramge exploration.

Idea is to make exploration round-trip to "far far away" --> colonia --> bubble and collect as much bioscience and exploration data as possible.
But I'm uncertain if I should use the Caspian Explorer or the Mandalay for the trip.
The Caspian explorer would bring me faster into the unknown and can carry more repair stuff but on the other hand its a large ship so more difficult to land than the Mandalay.

What would you use and why?
And are there any sightseeing Spots I shouldn't miss, Systems that every explorer should have visited?
Anything I shouldn't forget to take with me on the trip?

Spansh Galaxy Plotter

I'm returning to the game after about a year and a half off. And in typical foolish fashion, I've decided to pick up my Beluga circumnavigation.

I haven't even approached Amundsen's Star yet and I'm already struggling with the in-game plotter. If I plug systems into Spansh, will that give me a solid route to plot into the galaxy map one jump at a time, for those voids between the galactic arms?

Heading towards the core, opposite side of colonia. Gonna just stay there for a while (whenever I get there). Switched to the Corsair for second half of trip for better range and cooler operation (found some closeby inhabited systems), as well as the smaller landing profile, but I still miss the iclipper.......

It's not everyday that a slight navigational error lands you, not only at the edge of the Milky way galaxy, but also with no way of getting back to civilization. So while my fellow explorers in the Distant worlds fleet worked tirelessly to mount a rescue effort, I had about 18 hours to kill, in one of the most mysterious places that our reality has to offer. The one place where the true scale of our universe is actually visible and where a human can experience the shear vastness of the space... not between stars... but between galaxies. So here is what happened. Hope you enjoy.

So, a long time ago (probably 2016ish if my post history can be believed), I decided to fly out into the black to find my very first undiscovered earthlike. While I was out there, I found The earthlike world in the Thailae area. It was my very first earthlike, and it had rings, I was super excited.

I took a long break from exploration for quite a while. I decided, hey, there is this "new" thing called exobiology, why not go play with that for a while? You know what, while I am out there, I might as well visit my old find. I have my old find a nice visit, gave it a proper scanning with the DSS, pointed my ship slightly to the left, and starting jumping again. And I found my second undiscovered earthlike. This one also had rings on it!

I have exactly 2 earthlike worlds with my name on them, and they are both Ringed earthlikes. Granted, I don't know how often earthlikes are found, and if rings on earthlikes are common, but all the other (already discovered) earthlikes I have found on my travels do not have any rings.

Anyway, I am in an exobiology slump at the moment (in a bad sector or something) and figured I would share my cool (at least in my option) findings while I am looking for more exobiology to squash with my landing gear.

(also, sorry for the screenshots just from the bridge. I can't, for the life of me, get my camera suite to work)

Need help finding system.

I have searched for a planetary system built for my tastes, I found the location just no pictures, and before I waste my time going there I want some pictures of the system and all its planets.

I could not find any sources of the star system on the web, just some scattered bits of information, however it seems promising and that's why I ask you to find it and send pictures.

Here is the location:

StarSystem: Dryau Aowsy AA-A h33

SystemAddress: 279413007

StarPos: [747.87500, 950.25000, 18919.53125]

StarClass: TTS

Finally got out of Orion Spur the other day, hopping around like an ADHD grasshopper while still heading vaguely in the direction of Colonia

Trying to do more landings than I used to just to change up the views.

Flew around in some systems and found my first terraformable in Byeia Thaa ZP-F d11-14 (B 1 high metal). Also got a batch on EDSM for being first to discover an ammonia world in the same system (B 4).

u/AzureSekai — 11 days ago

Continued with some exploration on my way to colonia. Was first to discover a binary system with a waterworld, some ice planets/moons and 7 gas giants. I scanned (almost) all of them and got first foot on 16/20 landable in this system and at number 17 I might have been a little too fast when approaching the surface. My Mandalay broke down, lost 55.6 Mio Cr (almost all of them first discoveries, 300k codex discoveries) and went over 7 kLy back to the bubble.

Therefore: !REMEMBER TO BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! (especially if you are far more away and got more data)!
