Werewolf Update From The Combat Refresh Team

Hi All. Another post for you today! Below is an update on the Werewolf Refresh from the Combat Refresh Team. As a reminder, the Werewolf refresh will be available to test next week on PTS.

Greetings! The Combat Refresh team would like to give a quick update on what to expect for the Werewolf refresh coming to the PTS next week.  We’ve been hard at work making sure it’s up to snuff and we’re very excited to let you sink your teeth into all the new stuff that’s been updated! To recap, here is what to expect with the Werewolf refresh that we’ve already brought up through previous developer streams and reveals:

  • Two new Werewolf models, one male and one female. Female characters will automatically use the new female model.
  • New animations, visual effects, and sound effects for almost every Werewolf action including but not limited to:
    • Locomotion (movement, jumping, etc)
    • Core combat mechanics (Block, Roll Dodge, etc)
    • Abilities
  • A new ability tied to your Ultimate to cast while in Werewolf form, which lets you unleash the beast for a duration and grants a handful of stark power bonuses
  • A completely overhauled way to manage and sustain Werewolf form, now using Ultimate to both activate and sustain the form. Ultimate is now enabled and heavily awarded through certain Werewolf actions and overall you will find it significantly easier to maintain Werewolf form in most cases.
  • And two new mechanics we’ve added, named “Prowl” and “Slaughter” - which we’ll touch loosely on, but we want you to go on the hunt and sniff them out yourself!
    • Slaughter is a synergy-based ability, operating similarly to things like Blade of Woe or Vampire’s Feed
    • Prowl is a mechanic override for Crouch, which is designed to help utilize Slaughter more regularly, as well as a tool to help you hunt those who would prefer to remain hidden. Your nose knows! While this is not ‘true’ Crouch or Stealth, we hope that Werewolves appreciate the chance to be a bit more sneaky.

When we first showed off the updated model for the Werewolf, we saw a lot of positive feedback with some reservations that largely boiled down to three core criticisms: the size and bulk of the model, the mangy appearance of the model, and the methods of sustaining Werewolf form. Based on that feedback, we’ve made some notable adjustments to try and improve the Werewolf refresh. Some of the most noteworthy adjustments are:

  • Increased the size of the model by roughly 20%, making it substantially larger. This will ensure that you loom over normal player characters and humanoid enemies.
  • Adjusted and added more fur to the model based on feedback that noted how the previous iteration felt like it was mottled and bare.
    • There is more fur coverage overall along the back, shoulders, and forehead.
    • The tail is now bigger, floofier, and blends better into the fur on the Werewolf’s back.
    • The fur along the spine now covers more area, helping to add some extra size and aura.
    • There are performance constraints that we had to work within in regards to adding more fur to the model. While we know that some of you really wanted to see a model completely covered in fur, we cannot match the fur coverage from the Werewolf’s cinematic design due to run-time limitations.
  • The color of the skin now more closely matches the color of the fur and the fur now blends more seamlessly into the remaining areas where there is exposed skin.
  • While we didn’t go into all the details of sustaining Werewolf form in any of our reveals, we did see a lot of discussion around the cost out of combat. After pawing with the idea for a while, we’ve made the cost of sustaining Werewolf out of combat a nonfactor (it is now completely free instead of being reduced by 75%).
    • The cost was originally part of an intentional gameplay design that tried to enforce the need to constantly be on the hunt. Hircine will not be entertained unless the chase continues, after all. This pressure helped lean into the fantasy that Werewolves are fast, aggressive creatures that need combat to maintain their form – but ultimately the reality of gameplay clashed with this, creating more experiences of frustration than highlighting the positive sensations we wanted.

Lastly, on the note of another larger topic we’ve seen for Werewolves, crouch and stealth. This is something we’re not adding to the Werewolf in the traditional sense, as there’s a lot more than meets the eye with getting those systems to function and be supported between content interaction, blending every unique animation (and having those animations be loaded in Cyrodiil, which cuts into how many unique animations we can make for other classes), and a handful of other things. It’s also something that we’re not keen on enabling for balance or identity’s sake – we want to keep Werewolves direct, imposing, and terrifying as they rip apart their foes – which means we need to keep messaging clear and readable for PvP while focusing on the big and loud. Prowl is our compromise to this difference of desire and intent, as it lets you get some sneak-adjacent benefits by making you harder to detect by monsters, which was mainly done to ensure you can actively use the new Slaughter synergy.

That about wraps up the coverage of what we’ve directly changed based on your feedback we heard between our reveal for the Werewolf and what’s coming in PTS 1. There’s still plenty more to discover that we haven’t discussed, but we want to make sure we leave some meat on the bone for you when PTS rolls around. As always, we’ll continue to monitor your feedback as you get to experience it firsthandpaw throughout the PTS and launch.  Thank you as always for your time, passion, and support in making Elder Scrolls together. See you in Tamriel!

As a Sub, Can We Do Something to Stop the Absolute Trashing of Oakensoul Players?

No one is arguing Oakensoul is mathematically better than 2 bar builds. But, it's getting absurd how much hate people are receiving for simply mentioning Oakensoul. This is an Elder Scrolls Game, and people are allowed to play how they want. Normal debate about effectiveness is fine, but getting constantly jumped on the sub simply for saying "I use oakensoul" needs to stop.

Achieving 1000 kills by just standing there!

Using Thunderbug’s Carapace set + Strategic Reserve CP vs. a Kotu Gava Broodmother in Hew’s Bane. Get into combat with the broodmother, stand at a distance, and let her do her Spawn Call attack. This spawns 2-3 weaker Kotu Gavas that will bite you with physical damage, proccing the set. One or two procs should kill the spawn, while the broodmother is at a safe distance to keep spawning her little ones. Strategic Reserve and 500 ultimate will keep you from dying despite being peppered with mosquito bites. Literally set and forget!

The 10-Year Anniversary Elven Hero custume.

for 3500 trade bars I really think this outfit dye options are off, these two circled parts should be dyeable with the same dye slot for the sleeve/trim area. (slot 1 the primary dye is brown which takes up the majority of the color scheme, slot 2 the secondary dye is gold and slot 3 the tertiary/trim dye is grey and only the sleeve is able to dye) is it the same for the other nord and breton hero outfits? can the devs look into this tiny detail?

Since ZOS seem to be focused on quality of life, it's time for them to revamp the first person mode

For those who wish to quest and explore in first person, it feels claustrophobic and disorienting. The field of view is far too narrow even at max first person FOV.

Give us a first person perspective similar to Oblivion or Skyrim.

A Missing Class

So I've felt this way for awhile now, I feel like ESO is missing a more generic and simple Class. The Classes we have now are really good but they have a very thematic feel to them that makes it hard to just be a simple warrior, knight, archer, mage ect. It feels punishing to play as a character that doesn't use their Class Skills in more demanding content. I don't really do role-play, but I do make my character's with a theme/playstyle in mind, and quite a lot of the time, the Class Skills are too flashy and don't fit the vibe I'm going for.

It has left me wondering if I am the only one or if there are others that also feel this way?

I've just launched ESOLL, an extremely comprehensive and modern alternative to Minion

Tired of configuring add-ons and Reshade, and having to deal with not being able to uninstall the game because doing so would cause me to lose all my settings, I created ESOLL.

An app for Windows, Linux, and macOS where everything works automatically: it detects the installation, and when you install an add-on, the libraries are downloaded automatically, creates backups that survive game uninstallation and saves the settings made for each add-on, installs Reshade with presets with a single click, features a gallery manager using your local screenshots and publishes them on Steam via API key, includes a launcher that automatically closes the official launcher, and more.

this was a sad questline. I hope these people can heal from this.

but also why cant I stop giggling. they didn't have to have him begging on his knees for his hurt daughter in frame XD.
I've been enjoying collecting people in the Coldharbour section of this game. it makes me feel happy rescuing them and then just being like "ALSO! HAVE A HOME IN THIS HELL"

ESO and Truespeed ISP (UK)

Is anyone using Truespeed succesfully? ESO seems to be blocked for us. Neither the XBoxes, nor the PC versions will connect at all. We get a 301 error on the PC. Just "Cannot connect to server" on the xbox. This is a 900 meg Truespeed connection. We have tried all the things that ESO CS suggest, we have tried various settings on the router. Zilch! Every single other game I've tried will connect, Fortnite, Fallout 76, to name a few multiplayers, I've tried around 20 different games. The only one that will not work is ESO.

I do still have my talktalk connection as well and everything works perfectly through that.

We've had the new connection for 10 days. We are out of ideas, and Truespeed's customer service is incredibly slow.

Getting Your Tome Cache Refund

On a different thread we were discussing how to open a support ticket for this.

On the support page of elderscrollsonline.com, I used:

- In-Game Support

-*my platform*

-I have an item issue

-Bank/Storage/Inventory Issue

I chose to be contacted by text message. The refund was handled within 10 minutes. Excellent customer service!

Do active dolmen despawn after X time?

I was wondering about dolmen behaviour just a few minutes ago. What if you clear all trash mobs at a dolmen and use three of the four anchor pinions, but don't touch the fourth to start the final fight with the "boss", will the dolmen stay like that until you or someone else activate(s) it, or does it simply despawn after a couple of minutes because of inactivity?

My most efficient way to grind 1000 enemies and 50 Jubilee Boxes at the SAME time.

Having already completed both of these seasonal challenges, I found that the best way to do so was to travel to Wrothgar and head to the Poacher's Encampment World Boss. I grouped up with several people nearby and killed about 40 enemies every five minutes. I also noticed that Old Snagara would drop a Jubilee box almost every time we killed him, as long as I was the one to aggro him first. In between each round, I was also able to kill a few surrounding poacher enemies, pocket mammoths, chub loons, horkers, echatere, echalettes, and goblins, as well as mine a few ore nodes. Hope this helps!

Is rushing dungeons an issue on all platforms or just PS NA?

A rant, about dungeon quests, but really I need ZOS to make a way for people to do dungeon quests in random dungeons safely because the amount of times people have rushed and ruined my time because THEY don’t have the quest anymore is so annoying. Especially thinking about if I were a new player who HAD NEVER done these quests EVER before, I’d be so annoyed.

We want to do our quests without people ruining it, and not all of us have friends to queue with to do these dungeons outside of random dailies. I’ve had a handful of characters I’ve made not get to do the City of Ash or Elden Hollow specifically until well over 50. Not all quests are just “clear the dungeon” some have specific mechs that need to be done first and ONE rush into a boss can ruin that all. “Just queue again” that’s not the point.

It’s the principle that people are rude and don’t care when someone says “hey I’m doing the quest please don’t rush bosses” and frankly, I’m annoyed with it. I just wish ESO had a way that prevented this from happening to allow for new players and new characters to do the quests without people ruining it so much, just something to prevent it from messing up.

I know it’s not all dungeons and usually it’s not a big problem, but even my husband who has also played this game for 5 years like myself only got to do the CoA quest 2 weeks ago FOR THE FIRST TIME. FIVE YEARS he’s been doing dailies on this same character and never once could he complete the quest because of people who rush dungeons.

[edited for readability I suppose]
