order a pair of VANS, get a free firearm…

So something really crazy happened when I ordered my sister a birthday present on ebay. I had the gift, a pair of VANS, sent directly to her in another state. This morning as she’s opening the package, we’re on the phone and I hear her voice get weird. Turns out not only was it a pair of sneakers, but also a gun loaded with ammunition. Quite a strange freebie, right? She decided to call the cops not knowing if it’s illegal / registered, etc. Meanwhile I messaged the seller who didn’t end up getting back to me for hours. And I tired very hard to contact someone at ebay with no success at all bc everything is AI and I could not figure out a way to speak to a human. Still now almost 12 hours later haven’t heard anything back from ebay after leaving the report that a loaded possibly illegal firearm arrived with my order.

moral of the story … think twice before ordering from ebay and esp. sending directly to someone as a gift bc u never know what they’ll receive. and ebay, this is why u need an option for customers to reach a human!!

Rude buyer over low priced item

Sold a low priced item, I believe the item was OK, asked for proof of damage, buyer refused, very abrupt communication, they left me my first negative feedback immediately, not worth the hassle for a £5 sale 🤷

I’m scared I am going to get permanently banned

Someone bought 2 tracksuits from me on eBay which are very expensive, Returned them both and one was a completely different tracksuit, One was the correct one being returned but it was damaged…

I have never been more upset, so I reported it to eBay i said report issue or smthn. They still released funds to buyer.

After this I got soo hurt because they were teasing me in a way in the messages saying “No one will ever scam me” When I was the one who got flipping scammed 😭, And then he left me a bad review.

I was staying professional but at this point I decided To message him very aggressively and I said I have you address I can come and get my tracksuit.
And then I said I will call the police to your house because you have drugs there because you’re acting crazy.
Then I said again “I have your address I will ruin your life” and I will order from multiple accounts and also leave you a bad review.

Now I learnt my lesson not to get rage baited, but I think he’s going to report me when he sees my response in the morning.

Do you think I’ll get permanently banned? I wish I just got robbed and took it on the chin…

I will be happy if they reported me and it’s just temporary ban or a warning, but is it likely it will be permanently?

Buyer claimed refund on 'damaged' shrink wrapping - can I ask for the item back?

I've been done by a buyer so I'm looking for advice on how to avoid this happening next time.

  1. Listed a vintage board game received as a gift years ago, was still in the original wrapping. (NB the wrapping back then was far more delicate than the tougher plastic we have now)
  2. Buyer immediately offered £5 below the listed price (£30)
  3. I accepted, posted immediately in a packed box *with plenty of room around the item*, received payment
  4. Buyer messages me with a photo claiming the original wrapping had been damaged in transit. Gives me some spiel about how important it is to collectors etc.
  5. Buyer asks for a part-refund
  6. I offer £5 given they have had a discount already
  7. Buyer wants to pay £10 in total
  8. I decline this (via messaging)
  9. Buyer puts in a refund claim on eBay, is granted
  10. I'm left with no sale and no item
  11. I've reported the buyer

Now, I'd listed it with a 14-day return window (Postage was standard tracked delivery).

I still think I can sell the item (even now it's opened). Can I ask eBay to get the buyer to send it back?

I expect I'll have to take the loss on this one but I have a few other vintage games (mostly opened, though) hence my post.

simple delivery package size is incorrect for sold item

Hi All,

So I've sold an item, and the maximum package size that Royal Mail will ship is 61cm on the longest side, but this item is 93cm. My bad for not getting that measurement right.

I can't change shipping methods at this stage, what is the best thing to do? Ship it as it is and pay a penalty (does this risk it not getting to the buyer?), or do I cancel it and message the buyer to buy it again once I put it up with correct shipping details?

I have found posts about items being heavier than estimates, but not taller, so I'm asking here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Anyone else spending ages comparing courier prices? Found something useful

Been selling on eBay for a while and got fed up checking Royal Mail, Evri, DPD etc one by one every time I needed to ship something.

Found parcelcompare.co.uk — you put in the parcel size and postcodes and it shows you prices from 20+ couriers side by side. Saved me about 40% on my last few shipments just by seeing options I wouldn't have checked.

Free to use, no sign-up needed. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is losing money on shipping like I was.

Would love to hear if anyone else has found good ways to cut shipping costs?

Item also in UK has standard international shipping?

I've been looking at a listing which ships from in England but the price converts from dollars & only gives standard international shipping as an option even though in the UK too? I tried messaging if there's a cheaper delivery than the approx £10 but didn't get a response

Unresponsive Seller

Sorry for the simple query but the advice on eBay isn't clear.

I purchased an item 10 days ago and the seller hasn't sent it and they're not replying to me either (I only contacted yesterday, not been chasing them as it's a private seller). The window for delivery is about to close, will eBay automatically cancel the order as it's not been marked as sent by the seller, or do I need to manually put a cancel request through. Some of the advice on their site suggests that I'd still have to wait for the seller to ok the cancellation from their end, despite the fact they seem unreachable or unwilling to send....?

Thanks so much for any clarity!
